While I won’t pretend I could limit my watch collection to just three due to gifts and sentimental reasons, my approach to collecting is based on having the right watch (for me) for the specific occasion, not that you need any at all.
If I had to choose 3 though, I’d do:
How about you?

I started collecting last fall, and happen to have a three watch collection at the moment.
1. TAG Autavia in blue with brown leather straps and bracelet. My primary for the office.
2. Christopher Ward C63 Sealander in green dial with brown leather straps and black rubber hybrid straps. I purchased this GMT for a trip to Hawaii. This is my bum around the house weekend watch.
3. I just purchased the Tudor Black Bay GMT S&G root beer bezel on bracelet a few days ago. I THINK this is going to be primary social gathering watch, with some appearances at the office too.
After collecting for years, I’ve limited my collection to 3 watches. All GADAs since I love versatility and white dials for the same reason with no complications. A tool watch (GS) an everyday piece (OP) and a dressy watch(Santos).
Reducing is always hard… :)
but I would go with:
2. new Cartier Tank Louis black: dress and special occasion (hopefully from summer on in my collection)
3. Daytona Panda: my grail
IMHO a three-watch collection is all about versatility, so this would be my pick.
I took a look at my collection and found three Seiko watches that would make a good three watch collection and are also out of production, so I decided to do a themed three watch collection; Seiko watches I might not be able replace. 😜
SNKL23 for everyday wear, SUP880 for dress and business, and SKX013 for sports and outdoors.
p.s. I have them in my excellent watch roll from @grailtimepieces . I love this watch roll! It is such a great product!

Very cool! I didn’t realize the new Tudor was available. How’re you enjoying it so far?

Nice!
Very cool! What gets the most wrist time?
For human beings of modest means the three watch collection would be 1) Orient Bambino (dress), 2) Timex Explorer (field, outdoor activity), Vostok Amfibia (diver, where things get wet).

Yes, it’s brand new. I was told I purchased the one and only shipped to the St Louis, MO. Marketplace (This was the case last week any way).
I like it a lot. The root beer goes with gold very nicely. It’s more unique in person than on video or in pictures. The yellow gold looks more like a rose gold—somewhere in between. That paired with the all brushed finished and the brown in the root beer dial tunes the flashiness down a lot. It’s still there, but muted a bit.
The thickness doesn’t bother me at all. Honestly, had I not been advised to worry about the thickness a million times on YouTube, it wouldn’t have even crossed my mind. My cuffs slide over it no problem, and it doesn’t feel weird or off center to me.
I will probably post a review on here in the next day or two 👍
I have 10 watches in my collection, but three of them get ~85% of the total wrist time and they are...
Oris Big Crown Pointer Date (for office wear)
Omega Aqua Terra (for office wear)
Seiko Baby Tuna (for weekend wear)
I have a few other watches that I rotate in and out, but those are my three primary "go to" watches and honestly, I find that I am not really salivating for other pieces. Sure, there are watches I would love to own, but often when I think about pulling the trigger I say to myself "when would I wear this watch and what watch would it replace in that scenario?" Often, the answer is one of the three watches above and frankly, I love those watches, so I haven't bought a watch in a while. We are closing in on a year or so now without an acquisition.
I’m not really into dress watches - I’ll go for a “fun weekend watch” instead

Had an Orient in the dress slot too until I got the Lange a couple of years ago!

Looking forward to seeing the review! Speaking of St. Louis, I used to live in the CWE and am a lifelong Cards fan!

Awesome and love the case!
My ideal 3 watch collection and a 3 watch collection I can actually afford are two very different things...

Let’s see both!
This my current (first mechanical) 3 watch collection. I will likely be sticking to this format for future watch purchases with different manufacturers.
Field, Vintage and Sport:
SNK809, Vintage Orient, SSK003

Love the approach!
Love the approach!
Thank you
IMHO a three watch collection needs to have a dress watch, a diver, and a chronograph.
My ideal three is a Lange Saxonia Thin RG, Rolex Submariner 124060LN and Omega Speedmaster Professional Co-Axial.
I’d presently short the Lange. And own a 3570 Speedy. In addition, I have trouble purging below five or six pieces I already have.
I agree with the statement “the right watch for a specific occasion”. I know we’re in a much more casual culture now but I prefer having a watch for work, the weekends and formal events. I don’t wear a suit to the beach and I don’t wear jeans and a T-shirt to a wedding.
Beautiful Patek and Lange!

Digging that 3 and agree tough to get there! I'm at 7 myself:
Work
Dress
Vacation
Work Travel
Pool/Beach
Weekend
And the watch my wife gave me on our honeymoon

Completely agree!
Here's mine
Love it! Daily, sport and dress or do you think about it differently?
