Life-saving Watch

I am just watching the Antiques Road Show on BBC, a gentleman brought in his grandfather’s pocket watch. I don’t know what type of watch it is, but that is a bullet lodged in it during the First World War. I know we say every scratch adds to the stories of our watches, but this, wow!

That is amazing!

That's a scratch I would gladly accept.

·

Little bit of spit and polish and that will rub out .

·

As a military history buff, that is awesome!

·

I'll have to watch it on iPlayer. Been a bit busy with DIY today so I've missed everything.

His clock didn’t run out that day, the pocket watch on the other hand….

·

Some Crunchers here would have knelt down in the muddy trench, holding the watch like a dying puppy and said, "it should've been me," before letting out a wail of agony.

·

That's awesome and would be displayed front and centre

As a military history buff, that is awesome!

It was shown alongside a lady’s collection of her grandfather’s items from the First World War; he was also shot, the bullet lodged in a pocket book, she had the book and the bullet, amazing.

Wristwatches are more comfortable to wear on a war they said

·

Wow maybe saved his life

Thanks for letting me know, I've just watched it. Amazing stories. I thought the valuation was wrong though. Not that you can put a value on family history, it wouldn't be sold. But they said £600 for the field book and medals, and £600 for the watch and some other memorabilia. I can see watch collectors spending much more than that for such a unique piece - we spend that on "limited" editions!

So does that mean if you double wrist you can stop bullets like Wonder Woman? 🥴

Good trade, I'll say. Pocket watch for a life? Damn good trade. 🤝

Also, what kind of bullet is that? Wouldn't be surprised if it's a 9mm Parabellum but if it's a 7.92mm slug than hot damn, that's awesome as (excuse me while I'm swearing).

·

That’s insane!
