KING SEIKO, still a good a price value ?

I felt in love with the King Seiko SPB281 for 1700€ on seikowatches.com, but still worry about the movement and the overall value on it. around 2000€ is a price zone, where i could get a Tag Heuer, RADO, Nomos Longines and even a Tudor. Still a great Value? And how would you acutally pay for it ? Found on Ebay for around 1000€

Finishing is equal to any Grand Seiko, at a price that can’t be beat!

Such an understatement!

I can't say if it is worth the price but it sure is pretty.

So you’re saying GS are overpriced?

The King Seiko has been on my list for a while, especially the cherry red dial SPB287. Having handled it in person, it is quite a step up in overall finishing for the price which is on par with entry level models from Grand Seiko. The multi link bracelet alone has a lot of different surface finishes which alone shows the amount of work gone into the watch. It appears as a 5 link but the outer link is a single piece and the three inner links are separate which in long term will hold up well and doesn't start bending over time like usual multi link style bracelets. The butterfly clasp may be a personal preference but it works well overall for the design. I have a few watches with the 6R movement and have never had any issues, that said it is not historically the movement you would expect in King Seiko. In future, there may be 8L movement versions coming after the recent release of the 39mm King Seikos with the new 6R55 72 hour movement.

Seiko ADs usually have like 10-20% discount on these models so you may find a good deal or try Gnomon watches and Sakurawatches, you can find them between $1300-1500. If it is $1000 used on eBay then it is not a bad deal considering the watch is in a good condition or if it being sold as new, I would be careful.

The lower grade movement in the King Seiko is what kills it for me

Really depends on your budget, Seiko already makes a high beat 4hz King Seiko SJE087 with 6L35 movement (historically correct movement for the model) which costs $3000 but it is always a limited edition. Probably will have a standard run in the future at the same price.
