What's your personal favorite watch case material?

From a vibrant rose gold to a dull light brown color. I don't think i am a fan of bronze patina. Good thing i tested my taste on a budget friendly bronze watch first😊

I think my favorite case material is still stainless steel. Followed very closely by titanium. I don't know what age you reach where you suddenly like a full gold watch but i am starting to have an attraction for it🤪.

I have yet to feel platinum, full sapphire, and full ceramic materials on my wrist. Would love to one day.

Titanium for sure!

Titanium for sure!

I love the lightness and gray color. It does come at the expense of a less flashy/blingy watch. But not everyone is into bling to begin with

I don't know. My Horage in titanium has quite some polish (and contrasting brushed surfaces).

I think it's more expensive to polish. But not impossible 😉

🤩 I can definitely see the shine

You should have titled your post “Do you like it hard or rubbery?”

·

I do like steel best, but I also have the Combat Sub GL0322 (which yours appears to be) and love it. It came on a rubber strap, but pairs great with a brown or black leather for wearing with my suits or sing-pass fabric for casual. Goes great with brown and/or black clothing. I don't believe I'll ever like gold watches - too ostentatious for my taste. So bronze is perfect by being different and versatile - looking old-world, like a weathered rigging on a sailing ship, or dressy "rose gold," with a little polish.

Oh nice we have the same model 🍻

I Like the quality of the watch for its price (i think mine came up to about 240 usd) and the rubber strap it came with is super comfortable. The bronze turning color bothers me a little bit because it isnt happening evenly over the whole watch. Some corners are darker while others remain shiny. Im just OC like that 😄

·

The gold edges on the bezel is a nice touch indeed 🤩

·

Wow what an extensive review. Puts my reviews to shame 🤣

Thanks for sharing.😍 i like the medieval fantasy themes on the watch

Boring ole stainless steel for me.

Not tried bronze, not sure I'd like the patination.

Had a couple titanium watches, really hate it with a passion.... Yes, surprised me too 🤯

·

I've only tried stainless steel, brass and silver, with stainless steel still being my favorite. Haven't tried Ti for a watch, though I own multiplr jewlery pieces and bracelets that are made of Ti that I love. I guess we'll have to wait and see. As for gold I was never a fan of it throughout my life maybe that can be attributed my religious upbringing, but I just usually thinks it either looks like piss (24K) or dull as shit (14~18K). Never even seen platinium before except in my graduation thesis (we used it as a reference electrode).

·

I like the lightness of titanium, but I don't own one yet. I actually really like the Oris Pro Pilot X Kermit or coral color.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I LOVE tantalum. Has a darker, blue-ish grey compared to titanium and it's super dense & hard. My Moser has it as does the FPJ Chronometre Bleu, another watch I lust after. It also has a real heft to it and is heavier than gold, but lighter usually than platinum. It's tougher than platinum though.

sTeel's my fave too. Anything specific about titanium you hate?

Titanium is great for me specially because of the lightness. I dont usually like gold tone watches either but it's growing on me. Does that taste for gold come with age? I wonder

I've heard of tantalum but know nothing about it. Sounds very exotic. And rare

Sometimes price is due to brand, a lot of times in watches, bar the exceptions (eg tag scandal, frank Mueller back in the day, etc), it's because it takes time or man hours. In tantalum's case, it's extremely hard to work with and the tooling you use has to be constantly replaced because the metal is so hard! Also, it's very difficult to polish it as well. So, well done on both companies for figuring it out.

I understand that but due to my financial situation and future economic state where I am. It ain't even remotely plausable to purchase a watch like that sadly 😅.

(For reference a "good salary" here in Egypt would be 3200usd/year)

Yeah, these are quite expensive. There's always something unattainable and unreasonable. How can we justify these prices for man jewelery.

Well jewlery was never logical if we're being honest, its just our obsession over a certain way of looking which we pay top dollar for. I don't mind that idea, though it is worth pondering whether it has any semblance of rational. Currently most of my watches have been vintage/thrifted grabs from old markets, with only two exceptions being my SO & brothers gifts. Though I hope with time al be able to expand the collection.

I love glycine as a brand. Highly underrated. And didn't know about that bronze option.

I'm debating between bronze and PVD gold case. I do want that color. But I'm thinking the gold would agree better.

On the other hand I saw the bronze Tudor 58, and the patina was very nice.

The gold color of bronze doesnt last, sadly. Once it patinas it turns dull brown hehe. You might be better off with pvd gold, but that isn't going to be permanent either. At least pvd might stay shinier for longer. Whichever you decide, Good luck☺️

Haha it looks good to me too. Are you 40 years old or over? I am starting to believe it comes with age. 🤣

I unfortunately am of that age. Although as much as I like it I wouldn't actually buy it, but I would like to see how the 36 wears.

I Dont think i will be comfortable wearing any round watch under 38mm. Maybe for square cases it may be ok but i havent tried either.

Irrationally rational!

Boring steel. Please give me a pelagos 39 on steel🙏

Thanks. I'm happy to learn from your long experience. If you were into watches in the 80's i was probably in diapers still hehehe.

I'm sorry you experienced some toxicity in the zelos fb group. I experienced it once in the grand seiko fb group. I think it isn't exclusive to any brand. I also think watchcrunch is the friendliest watch community i've been on so far. Or at least you guys know how to keep negative comments to yourself 😆

You should read the fallout on the Omega FB page when the Swatch dropped 🤯 - needless to say I left those groups!!

Cheers mate, enjoy the hobby,it's brilliant 😁👍🏻👍🏻

Have a great weekend 🥳

Stainless Steel

·

I am a fan of titanium or stainless steel. Resin has it's place. Not a fan of bronze nor any precious metal.

·

Are they a good buy ? And what sort of money is a good price? 👍

·

Paid total around 450 usd for mine after shipping and taxes. I bought it for the brand name (Glycine is/was an old historic brand) and the bronze material since i wanted to try out bronze ownership and patina. The quality is consistent with the price. It's not great, but it's not crap. The only thing i can really complain about is the very poor lume for a diver watch. Did i say poor? I meant almost non existent 😁. The timekeeping was around +7 per day and the strap is very comfortable. If you can find a good price on ebay (no more than 450 dollars) for a brand new piece, i would recommend a Glycine.
