My wife gives me a strict watch budget, as I noted in a previous post I was debating between two rather very expensive watches and tried to go for how about I get both of them? I ended up getting an Itay Noy which left a lot of the watch budget left but it magically disappeared because as my wife said "You wanted double or nothing and you got nada." But in all honesty she is a good sport because I collect fountain pens and mechanical watches, not cheap hobbies.

I Used to dabble in collecting whisky as well as watches. But the box and bottles take too much space. That hobby ended pretty quickly. 😄

She "allows" me my hobby. The ones she's given me means the most and that gives me grace through it all.

·

My wife gave up long ago trying to talk sense into me that I don’t need another watch. Now she tries to bookmark ones I show her as gift ideas for the future. Trouble is I end up just buying what I want for myself. 😆

·

I can't imagine being in a relationship in which I would need permission.

·

My Mrs is into the hobby herself - she's just getting into modding/repairs which doesn't interest me in the slightest but I'm glad she enjoys it...

😉👍🏻👍🏻

Mine was supportive the first few purchases😄

I think my wife has just radically accepted my watch collecting is here to stay. 😆

Mine doesnt appreciate anything thats not a rolex or omega. The marketing team got into her hard

aw man, i feel that. thats how it started with my wife. i was able to expand her horizons (thanks to teddy b videos). shes into tudor and cartier now.

Maybe buy a nice watch for her every now and again?

She's not really into watches. Bags, shoes, and jewelry though 😱

I find it helps to justify the collecting when you can articulate and share how watches are connected to events in life, experiences, stories, and loved ones. I also starting gifting watches to my loved ones which also helps understanding the obsession haha

Watches having stories and milestones behind them are great to have. I have a few of those, but im too impulsive and impatient to wait for something to happen before i get a new watch 😆

I'll work on that ☺️

She's slowly coming around and have some clue of other watch brands now. I've finally convinced her that seiko is not just about inexpensive watches...although maybe i should have kept her in the dark on that one.🤔

I’ve learnt to purchase somewhat generic tool looking pieces, Sinn, Vertex, Hamilton - to my missis they all look the same so she never realised I have a new watch, and they all look like they wouldn’t be very expensive.

I Also use this strategy 😆

Bury those receipts deep my friend 😄

Oh yes I learned the hard way when I bought my first Hamilton, very expensive mistake lol

No wife - happy life! 😉😁

I got none, marital strife over spending money that is.

We each have our own money as well as a joint account we both contribute to for household expenses. Any remainder we have is ours to do with as we please.

Why more couples don’t have this type of arrangement always baffles me.

We never fight about money as a result or what the other buys with their money.

·

Thankfully my wife mostly ignores my hobby/obsession. I’m pretty wise with our money and she understands that I’m not mortgaging the house to fund the watch collection.

I also “brainwash” her whenever I’m able to make some money from watch sales (e.g. selling my GMT and Halios Seaforth GMT a few years back) so to give her the sense that I’m not losing thousands on this expensive hobby.

All in all though, trying to keep her happy is the most important thing. Happy wife, happy life and all that 😀

Then it doesn't. Single income families are a rareity (in the USA) these days. How do you afford it (rheotorical, btw)?

Cost of living isn't as high in the philippines and we have a business 😄

I do agree that in the u.s. typically both partners are earning an income, whether they need to or not.
