New Serica GMT colourway announced

Serica just announced their "desert red" GMT.

I like it and, although I think the original black/white version is better, I like to see them playing with more colours.

Image

They also announced fitted endlinks for the GMT line and some new strap options, I think it looks cool, but I'm not sure if I like it enough to pay the 119 extra euros. (EDIT: you can use the endlinks with any strap you want, it's definetly worth it for me)

I've been looking forward to this announcement since they teased it last week, and I'm a little bummed, I was really hoping for a bracelet made specific for this line.

I've been lusting over the black and white version for a few months now, I hope to be able to buy one in the mid-near future.

Anyway, what do you think? anybody has experience with the Serica 8315 GMT? if so, share your pics!

Edit: a great article by Fratello covering the release https://www.fratellowatches.com/new-serica-8315-2-gmt-chronometre/

Can't help but think this watch would look way better with a logo on it. I really don't like when they have no logo, just my opinion though.

Those fitted end links really do it for me, gorgeous.

I think it's perfectly in line with their design language, the centered hour markers (a common thread among their watches) and a logo would look a bit crowded in my opinion

·

I love their designs. I almost bought the blue diver a couple times. But honestly the GMT and field watches are greet too.

I haven’t seen their other stuff, just a quick observation

Totally agree, you could make a solid three watch collection with one of each model.

I'd personally go for the california dial field watcht, the blue diver and the black/white GMT

Now that we are talking about the subject, just a point about their customer service. It is wonderful, I have never been treated this well from a watch brand. I wanted to mention it as we often complain when this aspect is not at the expected level but I really appreciated the service they provided me (taking back a watch that did not fit me). Merci Serica 🙏🏻✅

awesome! that's great to hear

Do you have a watch without a logo at the top of the dial? I have one and have three sterile watches. There's just something incomplete/missing without a top logo or text. If you LOVE it ROCK IT! Stay Thirsty My Friend 🍻👊🏽

I don't have any watches without logos, however as I said in a previous comment, I think given the position of the hour markers and the size and bulky style of hands, the absense of a logo here is coherent with the design of the watch and I think it looks pretty cool, it's crearly an intentional choice and not an afterthought. Whereas with sterile watch face with regularly positioned markers do seem a bit empty without a logo.

Same here! I was in Paris over the weekend and because I wasn't entirely happy with the accuracy of my 4512 I went to their boutique. Their watchmaker had a look at the watch the same day and they delivered it to my hotel the day after. I am beyond grateful and happy with them 🙏

·

I absolutely adore this new release. I'm not currently in the market for a GMT, but this new Desert Red variant is really really nice. I also find the transferable end-links quite ingenious and plain gorgeous. They lend the watch a completely different vibe and it's so great they're removable.

Serica doesn't seem to skip a beat, such an exciting brand. I love it when brands have a unique design philosophy that underlies all of their activities and products.

I am exactly the opposite; I love it without the logo! The cleaner the dial, the better... 🙃

That’s why watches are so cool. Some people like completely opposite things! I like how some of the Chinese brands let you choose to have a logo or not, pretty cool.

I shall work, yes, but I feel that the strap would need to be quite thin and flexible to work with those endlinks. Otherwise it would get stucked or move with too much friction. That is just a guess.

(But it may help to understand why Jérôme was explaining in a podcast not long ago that he has been working on the perfect strap composition for his watches and that he was finally coming to something that fits his vision, ie how to make a strap fully compliant with or without those new endlinks...)

can you give us a link to the podcast?

This is (by far) my favorite GMT design on the market, but I'd heard there were very serious problems with this movement. Does anyone know if the new versions have corrected it?

These watches are COSC certified, so I would not worry about quality issues with the movement. The issues came with earlier versions of the watches that were still not chronometer-rated.

I have too many GMT’s, but this is such a cool looking watch, the original and this one. Unique use of the ante/post meridiem on the bezel. Too bad it’s a “caller” GMT, which too be honest the independent gmt hand sucks, even if it has bi-directional bezel.

I see what you’re saying, but I think that caller GMTs are thinner than travelers GMTs (the ones I can afford anyhow), I don’t travel between timezones much so I’d gladly take a thinner watch with mostly the same function and looks.

And I totally agree about the looks, it’s gorgeus haha

·

Huh, didn’t know they were a thinner movement. I do like thinner. Wouldn’t know it with the thick watches I have, (Carrera and Tudor GMT) lol.

I had seen Serica’s diver (or maybe it was one of the straight ripoffs that unfortunately came out) but never really paid much attention until I saw them at Windup this year. I was really impressed with their understated yet distinct design and absolutely loved their bonklip bracelet (I have one on the way now). Glad to see they’re following it up with those interesting end links.

Personally, I think their watches are too expensive, even with the COSC movements they’ve added. I appreciate what they’re doing and really admire their designs, but their prices are just a bit too high.

I think you’re right, the specs don’t really justify the price, the design and uniqueness is what you’re paying for, and I personally would (if I had the money atm 🤣)

I tried the GMT at Wind Up NYC. Great quality watch and wears well. I perfer dress and field watches but would pick one up if I was in the market for a GMT. Jerome is a gentlemen and is clearly passionate about his brand.

Funny enough I know many who would love the no logo approach especially since they can't flex it 😂
