Just when I thought I was done, something else catches my eye and pulls me right back in. (We’re never done as collectors)

So I have decided to stop purchasing watches for the time being unless it’s something I have been chasing for awhile. There’s a few I’m still after but they’re mostly vintage models which are quite hard to come by. But once in awhile I will walk around some vintage stores here in Tokyo/Yokohama to try my luck.

However while I was at the IWC boutique at Ginza to collect my watch from service, a watch caught my eye, and after getting hands on with it, I am completely smitten.

It’s the IWC Portugeiser Yacht Club Chronograph “Orlebar Brown” edition (IW390704).

First it was just curiosity. Then the staff took it out and insisted on me trying it on(she was very sneaky about it, she kept talking and looking at me while her hands magically grab the watch in the display without breaking eye contact with me)

So having it on hand and getting a chance to wear it. Damn. I knew that this one is probably going to be a future purchase for me. It is very wearable despite its 44mm size and the dial is really beautiful. Love the sun ray blue and the sundials actually cover the 12 and 6 o clock. I love the Portugeiser line but the partial 12 and 6 Arabic numerals bother me just a little. Love what they did here.

I am a big fan of this design but I’ll probably get the 2018 reference instead. I like the look of the symmetrical colours subdials.

For me it's the affordable Seiko's that mess me up. I've a fantastic plan to reduce my collection & upgrade to a more concentrated quality group of 5-6. I've managed to accumulate 3 Omega's and saving for more, but then I spot a cheaper Seiko (under £1k) & I can't resist. I buy them wear it maybe twice before regrets set in & I end up selling/swapping/giving away.

Guess I need to develop some discipline and self control 🤣

Judging by the number of topics on this site, it is indeed one of the few things that does not exist in watch collecting.
