MY DAD'S WATCH

I show you the most valuable watch I own, since this Seiko Bullhead from the 70s belonged to my dad and was his favorite watch.

Almost 4 years ago he gave it to me so that I could restore and preserve it, since the watch had been damaged by a watchmaker who had no experience in this type of movements.

My watchmaker and I repaired the movement, changed the glass (the original was very scratched) and my son already knows that when the watch passes into his hands he must keep it.

What family watches do you have?

Yes, I love the watch and the added value of having belonged to my dad makes it a family treasure for me! Thanks for your comment!

How fortunate to have something passed down from your dad. I can’t imagine how special it is to own it knowing he wore it and loved it for so long. I bought my first watch (other than an Apple Watch) last week. This, as well as all future timepieces will go to my 6 year old son when I’m ready to let them go.

My dad’s watch is a 1990s Citizen aqualand duplex. It was an early mix of a dive computer and dive watch. My dad wore this watch all across the world whilst working as a master dive instructor, and free-diving. It’s been to more countries, and survived more crazy adventurous situations than I can imagine.

The mineral glass is rather scratched, I don’t know if those scratches came from a coral reef, underwater cave or the bulkheads of the Norwegian cruise line vessels.

My dad doesn’t dive anymore, he eventually got tired of it and adopted a different career.

None. My dads watch went to my brother. Who isn’t into watches. And is also a total jerk.

Yes I’m salty lol.

So it’s up to me to start the tradition with my daughter 😂🙌

·

This is my fathers watch.. given to him by his father when brand new in '69..

My late father's 90's era Vostok; which I now proudly have as part of my modest collection 👍

·

Your dad had good taste.

For family watches, nothing really. Dad was tight with money and simply was not into watches.

·

My grandfather’s 1972 Bulova AC Clipper that my late father gave me. I recently had it serviced. Love this watch and my family history.

I'm fortunate enough to own my father's 1972 Seiko UFO that he bought new. He stopped wearing it decades ago because it stopped working but after he died I had it repaired a few years back and absolutely cherish it. This one will never leave my collection!

Nothing special, but this is my grandad's Seiko Quartz (mov't 5Y23) watch. I think it's from around the late 80s probably. My grandpa passed in Dec. 2011and I found it while going through some of his stuff. My grandma said whatever watches I found I could have, and this one was the only thing that stood out to me. I got it running back in 2014 with a new battery, and then it sat in my watch box for 9 years. All it took was a new battery and it was ticking away. This is one watch I'll never give away or get rid of.

That Seiko Quartz is very nice! It doesn't matter what watch it is, what really matters is who wore it before.

It's an added value that those watches are almost our age!

Watch presented to my father by his employer in 1960 to commemorate 20 years service. It's engraved on the back and all. I had it serviced recently and it's in almost perfect shape now. The lume has decayed, but that's it. Apparently it's a Hoverta Rotomatic rebranded by Birk's, a jewellery chain in Canada. The movement is an older ETA, possibly an ETA-2451.
