It happened! It really finally happened!!!!

Today is the day that I thought would never come. This morning before he left for school my son said “Daddy, I think I’d like to have a watch.”

I told him we could do that this afternoon when he gets home.

When he got home he woke me up and asked again about getting a watch. I asked him of he had any thoughts on what he would like. He said he would like a bracelet, and not too heavy.

“I got you buddy.” I got my Berny SNK homage. I told him that its titanium and explained a couple things for him. Then I sized the bracelet and gave it to him.

I would post his first ever wristy, but he is asleep.

In his whole 9 1/2 years he has shown absolutely no interest. Maybe I can hook him young!

·

My son showed interest at around 8 years old. I had to get him several watches

My daughter and granddaughter enjoy mocking watch obsession.😀

But, I do have a younger friend whose 10 year old son has been wearing a watch since he was 4. I gave him a Vostok Scuba Dude for Christmas that he loves and if he keeps up his interest it will just be the first of many watches headed his way.

I have no issues buying him watches, but if he wants some of my quartz to start with, I’m good with that too.

Awesome! Excellent story.

·

That's a slippery slope 😂

·

And so begins a story of watches and questionable financial decisions.

·

You have raised a fine boy there!!

·

Wholesome story, I’m sure your son will enjoy that Berny SNK homage and you two will have wonderful watch moments to live and remember. 🍻

·

Best dad mug is on the way sir 👍

I remember wearing my first watch on a class trip to the American Museum of Natural History and asking my mother if it was waterproof because I was afraid it would get wet when crossing into Manhattan via the battery tunnel. It’s great to be young, innocent and naive. 😊😊

·

Gifted an old quartz Pulsar field watch to my neighbour's 6 yr old. They have to wait for him to fall asleep before they can get it off his wrist!

·

A magical day in a father's life. My eldest son owns a couple of G-Shocks but he has a strong dislike of certain sensations (hates wearing jeans, etc.) so never wears them. His little brother owns a bright yellow Timex he adores but seldom wears. This morning, apropos of nothing, he brought it to me before school and had me put it on him (he's 6 and struggles to work the strap). Must be something in the air today...

·

Genius! That Berny SNK homage is perfect as a first step into the rabbit hole (it was for me when I rebooted my collection last year), as long as you don't have hairy wrists (yet).

·

LUCKY YOU!!! I have two grown daughters who could care less about watches. Your passion and his will be something you can both share.

Holidays and birthdays will be a cinch to buy for...😎

I hope so. I also told him that if worse comes to worse and he manages to damage the watch somehow, it was only $60.

He asked me if it was waterproof last night so he could shower with it. I told him it should be able to take whatever he can throw at it.

He told me this morning before school that he likes it so much because of the bracelet. He can take it on and off as he wants. Can’t work a strap and buckle for the life of him. Lol

He struggles with the buckle and tang on any watch strap. So he loves the bracelet.

That’s part of the hope. Also my dad always wore a watch, but never had a watch higher than Timex until I got started.

I replaced the bracelet with a perlon strap as soon as I could because it felt like torture, but glad to hear that your son likes it.

I found it quite comfortable. If you want torture get a Momentum Steelix on their bracelet. Ugh

Hey Ty, you know I appreciate you doing that. That’s good parenting right there bec I’m sure your son would feel terrible if he accidentally damaged the watch his dad gave. Cheers mate!

Also I caught him eyeing my milsub homage yesterday, and if he asks it will be his.
