Two-Tone โ€“ American Psycho is Back

Rolex is the King of two-tone. You will rarely find another brand with a two-tone variant of almost every model. That are not just artefacts from the 80s in Rolex collection, the release of the root beer GMT-Master II, the Rolesor Sea Dweller and Explorer showed that this is a still growing thing or revitalization of two-tone. And Rolex is not only enhancing his own collection, at Tudor the two-tone mania is also arriving.

I felt in love with two-tone and so I am now owner of a Rolexor Explorer. The same happened to a friend of mine (@Jan_jgb981), so he is now proud owner of an American Psycho Rolesor Datejust 36.

For me the Rolesor Explorer is the perfect Rolex. It is a professional model, it is small, it has no date and is gold (till I started to familiarize with watches for me Rolex was a Day-Date or a Rolesor Datejust). I love the black dial โ€“ yellow gold combo. It is guilt and retro without having the fauxtina charm, e.g. like the BB58. The size of 36mm for such a watch is perfect, yellow gold is loud. So, it is better when it is small ๐Ÿ˜Š

Is this really the revival of the two tone or is it just the lack of availability of steel models; whatโ€™s your opinion on that?

Gorgeous! ย I think the most beautiful Rolexes are the two-tone models, and you both have absolutely wonderful examples!

I suspect there's a bit of a revival going on. ย In the past, every other article about any two-tone watch on Fratello or Hodinkee would have a title along the lines of, "Is this a travesty? ย But, it looks so cool." ย Nowadays, the titles seem to just be, ย "This looks so cool." ย

Wow, I love your two toned Explorer. I'm glad my 36mm 1991 two tone gold dialed DJ daily wearer for most of my life until I started collecting is coming back again.

American Psycho? Just googled it and I can't believe I wasn't aware of the connection until now.

Yeah right, the opinion in the magazines is also changing.

Two-tone is definitely having another moment and the Explorer is the best modern example of how it can transform the entire vibe of a watch. I personally donโ€™t have a two-tone model but hard to argue the choice to rock two-tone.
