My first important watch was the Omega Seamaster Titanium Polaris, the first edition of 1984. I still love this brushed case with the gold inlays and its typical 80‘s design.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
This same Omega Seamaster. Nearly 40 years ago the selling price of this watch was approx. USD 1‘300, a fortune for a young student like me but it was my dream. As my grand mother heard that I wanted to buy the watch she gave my USD 200 and told me to buy something nice. After long evenings of work in various bars and restaurants I added the difference and came proudly back home with the new watch and showed it to her. After having looked at it for a long time her reaction was: „And this costs USD 200?“ Fortunately she never knew what was the real price.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Don‘t get into watches!
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
You always start with the big names of the watches industry in order to set some standards. I have however to admit that now I am more interested in micro brands, which give such a good quality for much more less money.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
My first watch described above was for sure at that time a kind of grail watch. At the moment I honestly do not have a specific grail watch in mind. Might change….
