Perhaps a fluted bezel date just?. Can stick at 36mm if that’s your preferred size and gives you a dressier option… also you might not have to wait an eternity unlike a submariner (where I live atleast) 🍺
You can't go wrong, those are all great watches, but I went with the Tank. While the Explorer can work for nicer occasions, that's it's weakest point. I think those two would cover pretty much all situations except serious diving, and you'd want a computer for that.
A DJ could be the perfect watch. There are dozens more combinations to it than the Sub. All Subs look the same. Cartier is a really nice watch but I think it's the a same as the Sub. There's not much variation. They all look the same. Get something that you can get the color bezel and bracelet you want. That's the DJ.
Out of these Id get the datejust. Its a good looking classic piece and I honestly dont really like Cartier watches. The Santos looks good but is a stratch magnet and the tank I dont understand. Small, dainty, dated, overpriced and looks like a ladyes/grandpa watch. The Sub is cool but the DJ is a better everyday piece imo.
I went with the Santos (I would recommend the mid size based on a 36mm being your current size) Most people will go with the sub, however my wife had a 36mm date just, she wore my GMT and it was to big for wrist.
For me the Santos has a weird shape, looks oddly big in it's historically XL size, and is best for a bipolar Brazillian who flies dirigibles and crashes a lot. And Rolexes are too boring and ubiquitous. One day I'd like to get a tank, so that's my winner!
More than any of those, I'd take @Mr.Dee.Bater 's SLGA023 Kuroshio in blue suggestion 😍
(not so much a fan of See Sterns, or Stern Seas, or Boat Sterns)
I own 3 different iterations of the great Cartier Santos but voted for the Tank which will work well with your Explorer. I was ready to buy a Tank XL for myself last December but instead gifted Tanks to my two daughters so they can stop checking out my Santos watches.
Santos and Explorer are two sides of the same coin.
I know but they both bring something a little different to the table. Would love to own both but do understand they kinda do the same thing so not too high on my list of priorities.

I actually voted Santos. I think they compliment each other brilliantly.
The truth for me Alex that it probably will be none of them because after wanting a sub as a grail for a while I really thought hard about it and I’m not to sure I feel the same way about a luxury watch over 3k. But that’s a story for another time. Good luck on your next pick my brother.

I do appreciate a nice GS.
Spring Drives are absolutely mesmerizing.

100% the tank. easy!

I think the logical and easiest decision is to just get all of them! One day I suppose 😂
