I own the super Antarctic and the clasp itself is milled and thick metal, good quality (although it’s friction fit, no buttons). It’s just the swing arm that is pressed.

It’s a bit disappointing, I agree, but not enough to detract from an otherwise really nice watch.

Weirdly, I also recently bought the newly released Antarctic diver and that does have a fully milled clasp, swing arm and twin button pushers. Not sure what the thinking was by Nivada but it’s not a dealbreaker for me either way - just my two cents. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I received my Antarctic Diver on beads of rice today. Early days obviously, but I can confirm it looks and feels great. I’ve also got the Super Antarctic (non 3-6-9 dial) on beads of rice also and the Diver is a step up in quality - bracelet has a milled twin trigger clasp unlike the Super, which was friction fit and pressed swing arm.

Skeletonised dials, anything with Roman numerals, anything with diamonds, anything with a 4 or 4:30 date window.

I have a Nivada grenchen super Antarctic which has a soprod P024 and that was running at about +15.

Movement has bedded in now (presumably coz mainspring has to coil and uncoil a few times to settle down) and now it’s at about +6spd. I wear it as part of a rotation though. Not every day.

I’ve had the watch for about 9 months now I think.

Yes. I’ve built a couple from parts just to see if I could do it. Seconds hand setting is a total bastard to do, but satisfying when you get it right. I destroyed about 5 sets of hands (bent, scratched etc) before getting it right. The tools used make a huge difference imho - those plunger style hand setting tools are awful - I prefer to use the manual ones.

Note - used NH35 / NH38 movements, regreased the gaskets etc. but didn’t assemble the movements myself - not ready for that yet.

Great article.

Technically impressive but Impractical for most. I have a 7 inch wrist and I’d give it a pass. However, if they release a 39/40 mm PO with that dial design (ie, no date), then I think it would sell well if reasonably priced.
