Too Many Hobbies?

Last year I planned to buy a Khaki field auto, a Seiko 5 GMT, and a Seiko Speedtimer… Instead, I wound up with an Omega Seamaster 300 GMT 50th Anniversary. My logic was that the other three watches were about 70% of the Omega, and they would depreciate.

This year, I have a business milestone that I’m close to achieving. To celebrate, I had planned to buy a Tissot Heritage 1938. I’ve been looking at them for a while, and I would love to daily one of them.

But I stopped at my local watch maker the other day and I can get a killer deal on the vintage Tudor Sub on the left. The Sub has been serviced and pressure tested, so I wouldn’t hesitate to wear it daily or even in the water. It’s also a matte dial and meters first example, with the original dial and hands, though I believe the pearl was replaced. The Tissot is substantially cheaper, but boy is the Tudor gorgeous.

Does anyone else keep talking themselves into more expensive watches? I tell myself that 10 years from now I’ll be glad that I went with the Tudor over the Tissot. Though I really do like the Tissot, I LOVE the Sub.

In order to afford the Tudor, I will have to liquidate some pieces I’ve collected in another hobby of mine. I’ve come to the conclusion that I have too many hobbies. Three of them in particular are quite expensive, watches are one of those. Watch collecting would be so much easier if I didn’t have the other two hobbies 😂

I really own have 2 hobbies. 1 is saving money and investing and the other is watches. Luckily they work pretty well together.

They do work perfect together!

One of my other expensive hobbies is cars. That hobby also works perfect with watches, but in a different way 😂

Well I haven’t yet!

This week I need to sell some of the other collectibles I’ve been hoarding from another hobby. If I can sell enough before somebody buys this Tudor then I’ll pick it up.

Ah, my bad! I misread. I’m in the same boat. Selling off stuff to reallocate the funds into other hobbies. 😆

Well, I hope you’re able to unload what you need to and that the Sub is still there waiting for ya!

I keep talking myself out of cheaper watches actually. I still buy a few, but generally I’m focused on saving for more luxury watches that I appreciate and enjoy more. Also that I had to take my time saving for, so they are that much more meaningful and special for me. If it’s a milestone and you can afford it, get a watch that really commemorates that.
