I agree that the design is much more distinct and unique for the SMP and Santos. But there's always a Rolex factor, which is not only about the brand image and recognition, but also the value retention as well
I actually like all of them, but I gotta choose as money is not infinite. 😀 The Sub might be inferior in some areas of comparison, while it may be superior in others. So why would I sell the SMP? Just to try something new and see how that feels! I think that's a part of our watch journey. I've had my Omega for a while, I like it, but I've never had a Sub before. Who knows, maybe I'll like it even more?
At some point, going under the radar is not a bad thing; at least it won't get you robbed too fast! 😅 I've got myself a Breguet Marine, which was the most I've ever spent on a watch, and it's only capable of catching the attention of those who know something about watches. 😀 It doesn't matter much to me as I still enjoy its look!
I can definitely receive some comments from my close friends, as they are also into watches. However, I've also received a couple of comments from random people a few times. Once, when I was at the poker table, and another time, it was a scooter driver from a bike rental who said that this Breguet is his dream watch. I should admit that both times, it felt quite pleasing
For sure, the clasp is making this watch a bit bulkier, but not to the extent that it disturbs me. I also think this clasp looks much better than the rubber strap buckle or the original bracelet clasp of the Seamaster
I don't consider myself a real watch snob when it comes to someone else. But when it's for me, the watch becomes a reward for an achievement or milestone. Do I appreciate the design of inexpensive watches? For sure! Would I seriously consider buying one for myself? I really doubt it!
For me, it's more about celebrating success and buying myself a $100 Casio just won't cut it. I believe that a reward for working hard should have some decent value. In other words, I would want each subsequent purchase to be better than the previous one or at least not lower my standards too much
I don't think that it really works like that everywhere. I'm living in Bali, which is not considered a highly paid region of Indonesia, but I can spot quite a lot of people wearing Rolex or something even more valuable. I've heard that in New York or London, wearing expensive watches on the streets can get you robbed. However, in Asia or even Russia, it's either safe or people just don't know much about watches except for Rolex. So it feels quite safe in big cities, especially when you're wearing an Omega or Breguet, which are only known by watch enthusiasts. For the rest, it's just another stainless steel watch like Timex or Tissot.
For me, the problem with Rolex is that it's way too common. Whenever a guy wants others to know that he's made it, he gets something like a Datejust. That's why I can't really appreciate this watch for what it is, because Rolex is a cliché choice. And to be honest, its design is quite dull to my taste, especially when it comes to the more affordable price range
