I'm facing a serious decision to make! I can sell my Omega SMP and add some extra cash to buy a used Sub, or I can choose not to sell anything and purchase a brand new Santos from the boutique. The pr...

I’m not the one who likes to wait! Wearing it 2 weeks before the birthday 😀

Federico is having the same older Breguet Marine just like mine, it’s only the dial color that’s different. He has it in white, mine is blue

Thanks for your comment; I really appreciate your help with my decision! Of course, owning all four watches at once is not a bad thing if we're not considering the money factor 😅

My watch collecting approach is more like checking all of the boxes and having a diversity of designs for different outfits or moods: formal occasions, everyday casual wear, going to the beach, or the gym. For me, the Sub and the SMP fall into the same category, especially as I already have the Seamaster with a black dial. It's not that they're too similar in terms of design, but they're both steel dive watches with a black ceramic bezel. Having both at once seems kind of excessive to me. Additionally, having too many watches of the same style also adds a concern about the wrist time each timepiece gets.

As for the AP, I won't feel comfortable wearing a 40-50k timepiece if it took me a few years to save up for. I believe that you're either buying it with your recent earnings or not buying it at all.

That's why I indulge myself once in a while with something nice that doesn't make me too scared to wear and doesn't cost a significant part of my savings. Sorry, AP, I'll get back to you later, and today is my SMP day 😀

Considering all the thoughts said before, firstly it would be nice to try the Submariner to see how it fits me. It’s also true that the Santos is adding more variety because it’s having the square shape and has two size options plus quick strap release and comes with a lather strap. It’s also cool to have this feeling getting something brand new straight from the boutique, which is not an option with the Sub

I think that Cartier is also having some kind of luxury status as a Brand and it’s quite widely known by regular people even if they don’t know much about the watches

The Sub I'm referring to is the one from 2020. It's not too old and it has the modern Rolex clasp. It can still be in great condition. I'm not even dreaming of buying it from an AD as it may take forever to wait, so the gray market is the way to go. I'm fine with paying over the retail.

I should also mention that the Seamaster is not my only watch. I have the Breguet Marine 5817 as well, so I'm basically switching between the two of them depending on the occasion.

So it comes down to either having a solid duo of Sub and Breguet (which also requires more effort as I have to sell my black SMP), or not selling anything, buying the Santos from an AD, and having 3 watches instead of 2. Omega, Breguet, and Cartier make for a very versatile watch collection with lots of taste and unique designs.
