I found the best Breitling ever made!

In 1952, after much beseeching by the AOPA, Willy Breitling finally relented and made the worl'd first smart watch for pilots. The rest as they say, is history. For years I've been looking for the right reference to add to the collection, what's your favorite navitimer model?

I like the one they make which looks like my Sekonda.

Oooo love the blue 💙

And 38mm ?! 🥵

It surprised me too that they actually make one that fits normal human wrists again. It came out about 4 years ago, but my local AD never got it, so I bought the Sekonda instead.

Well looks like it's not a chronograph but just a 3 hander?

They all look the same but a big one (so its legible) with the wing logo so vintage......

I like the Navitimer. I think it's one of the best looking watches ever. But it has to have contrasting sub-dials in my opinion. Without compartments the dial is just too messy. If they make a panda (or evil panda) in the new cases I will have no choice but to buy it 🙄

Yes, you found the best one. Man, what a good looking watch. I’m a sucker for aviation watches but this is one I’ll have to keep an eye on in the coming years. Great review.

I have a few Navitimers kicking around but mostly wear my 48mm 1461 iteration which uses a modified ETA movement, something Breitling has in their catalogue for as long as I can recall. Sometime in the early 1990s B introduced a model that I owned briefly that was launched to compete with the Daytona but I have not seen any for sale. I am thinking seriously about visiting a local pre own seller to see if he has any Navitimers circa late 1980s that I can have fully serviced, it would be a reminder of my first Breitlings which I routinely bought and sold.

That would be so sweet! Good luck with your search

Enjoyed the video. Did it really sit that well on your wrist? I was always hesitant with how large it was…

Yeah, I was seriously surprised. I try not to lie in my videos 😉

I think I'll go off-piste (as Mr Wonderful would say)...this is my favorite "Navitimer"...

It was fun to watch a video about the 59 re-edition. There are not so many reviews about it on YouTube.

I was lucky enough to find one in mint condition this winter. I just love the vintage look and the size is much more manageable than its modern siblings.

Hi Max,

Pls no reply needed I wanted to share with you my experience at the Breitling HO here in Toronto staffed by terrific watch enthusiasts all. It is no surprise that many staff wear and own multiple Navitimer watches, the lady who manages the front office wears a 43mm in house model, man who manages the repair division wears a Navitimer Rattrapante and the list goes on. The model that you sourced required a little patience but that is not me. It was my intention to check out the new models released but I felt no affinity with them and did not want to be tempted. New to Watch Crunch, enjoying the experience fully.

Best

I just Breitling.

Shop around for it. When they were released no one was buying them and the prices were stupid low for a luxury watch. Within a couple of months, the prices doubled, and now they are even more ridiculous again. If you look on the usual sites for a used one, you can still snag a bargain. They have different colours too. I think there's a red one, a black one, and possibly a white one in addition to the blue.

wtf? 3500$? Like what in the world? whaaaat? Why?

Damn, I don't have 3500 of free moneys right now, but WHAT???

It's very, very tempting

·

I think if I was going for a new one I'd just opt for the automatic BR01. A manual wind original 806 APOA would not go unappreciated, thats for damm sure.

·
casiodean

Yeah, and what makes it worse is that nobody wanted these when they released them because they hated the new logo and thought the different colours were Breitling trying to do a Rolex. I think TGV picked one up for $2000, and he flipped it. So I think that was roughly £1600 in real money. Then people changed their minds, and the price rose back to the RRP and beyond. I don't know all the ins and outs of it, I'd already bought a Sekonda instead.

TGV always on the pulse 😎

Great review. I generally like breitling and know I’m in the minority but I also like the new super oceans.

The Montbrilliant was truly brilliant at <42mm.
