It was my first meetup and was so great to meet all you! Thanks @Rome1234 and @artpordiaz for organizing it!

I’ve so many scratches on mine(also a black dial Exp2) that at this point I just wear it without a single worry. Kinda helps me enjoy the watch more tbh.

If you want all brushed, OP is the way to go. Datejust has polished center links + polished clasp on both bracelet variations.

Go fluted bezel and jubilee if you want people to notice. Go domed bezel and oyster if you want under the radar.

Personally I’d avoid Roman numerals because of lack of lume.

A significant difference between the oyster datejust and OP apart from the obvious would be polished center links on datejust vs all brushed finish on the OP

It obviously doesn’t work on the informed. To the uninformed you’re telling them that your product is the pinnacle of luxury. Barring any additional info and knowledge of the realities surrounding this niche, people believe it when bombarded with it. That’s just human nature.

Oh we’re definitely paying a premium for the “Rolex” name on the dial, don’t have any doubt about that. Rolex - the best watch in the world, Rolex - the watch you buy when you’re someone yada yada yada is all just marketing BS.

However, we still buy them or at least I do(only certain pieces) because I like how they look and there’s quite nothing else like it(I know homage watches exist but it’s never the same).

I could maybe justify some of the cost in the quality and longevity of the movement and other parts and a promise of continued availability of service for decades to come, but the margins the company has on them are still huge and if you ask me if a Rolex is 10x better than a San Martin based on the price delta, I would say no, it isn’t.

I’ve seen comments here that you can sell a Rolex for more than you bought it for at any point but that isn’t entirely correct. Certain high demand pieces will go for more than retail at any given point, certain will go based on the condition and most will sell for way under retail as time passes so don’t consider that as worth paying the extra premium when buying or use that as an argument to justify the high retail prices.

Ultimately, it’s not the value proposition we look at while buying these watches as these are completely unnecessary purchases. We buy them because we like them and the heart wants what it wants.
