Omega x33 Marstimer

So Omega have just released this new X33 Marstimer. I happen to like the design and bezel colour they have gone with, but this piece is an eye watering 6 grand for a quartz!!

If you were in the market for a thermo‑compensated quartz movement, would you go with this over say a Grand Seiko or a Breitling?

X-33

So, here’s my take. If you watch the Space-X launches, you’ll see one pretty legit piece of equipment on the human flights… the X-33 Skywalker. It’s literally the watch people wear to space now. So immediately there’s pedigree especially because the X-33 current gen is a 1:1 production model meaning they wear off the shelf models to space. Yes, some testing and certification most likely (I hope) took place but it’s still off the shelf.

The Marstimer is an odd duck, with extremely strange specs that to me scream ”Hey, pick us for whoever is going to Mara next, because, well, we literally have a watch made for your next mission.” So it’s a bit of a gimmick, but they’re positioning to be THE space watch company.

Regardless, it’s a fantastic watch, and the value prop is there for their specific application. It’s just not there for your average user since most won’t use the functionality, especially the Marstimer.

The X-33 is a ludicrous watch.

It's too big.

It's too expensive.

It's ugly like a Titanium sphincter.

It has a shit-load of features I'd never use.

I love it!
