My OCD has well and truly kicked in!!!

I have a scratch on the face of my casio 2100b 3a 🙁 I’m my opinion only, this is, not only one of the coolest g-shocks made but one of the most illegible! I love and hate this watch. I often find myself looking far too long at it to see the time :-/ problem is I now see the scratch before i actually see the time. Now I know this will divide opinion but I suspect there will be 2 views on this:

  1. it’s a G-shock it’s supposed to be beat up, what are you worried about you pussy!
  2. It’s actually a posers G-shock and I understand your OCD completely, I am sympathetic to your problem

To be clear the title obviously indicates I am firmly with option 2 so I have come to terms with the possible abuse I may get, however to me a scratched glass means only one thing, sapphire crystal mod coming up! Already shipped from Ali Exxpress. I have no idea if the quality or fit will be any good but we will shall soon see, I will put up a post on it however tips most welcome! Tracking indicates that it’s winging its way to GB as we speak.  Let the debate begin…

When you are doing that, also switch out the hands for legible ones?

E.g. bright orange hour and minute hand

I feel your pain. I wear my GA 2100 nearly everyday to work. I'm normally at a desk just drawing. But one time I needed to go into the factory & get quite hands on. I don't know how I did it, but I got a deep scratch on the face of the watch as well. not as long as yours but still it irritates me.

I do kind of baby the watch despite it being a tank but that's just a result of being mechanically sympathetic in nature.

I was thinking of doing that but couldn’t find anything, I might have another look. All green looks cool but is a blocker for strap swaps and hands (perhaps silver) I think is limited

Ahhh I am amongst friends 😂😂 £20 for a sapphir, I hope it fits and is easy enough, I can’t see it being a big job to do

Add a new set of bright indices to match the new hands.

Also...this is an acrylic glass, right? Buff it out with Polywatch until you get your sapphire glass mod.

Just enjoy the scratches. They tell a story.

But hey nothing wrong with a sapphire.

·

I have the same watch and totally agree with the illegibility. The styling is fantastic with the brushed steel face and polished steel hands and indices. Even the negative display is hard to read if you wanted to during the 12 hours of the day that it isn’t partially covered. You have to rotate it in the light to get the polished steel to reflect. Fortunately that draws your attention to the beautiful light play and aesthetics That make this watch so damn cool.

My all red casioak is pretty readable,it could be better but if I want a straight up super legibility I go with a different watch. This makes my casioak more of my day off/going out watch. But mine is also the plastic version which seems to have more contrast between the indexes, hands, and face.

I think it is mineral. You still can buff it with goya paste, but that is not as easy as polywatch or toothpaste with the acrylic

I'm with the first group. I think that a G-Shock has to be beaten, even the posh one, even a custom titanium for 4K$. It's all the charm. I don't like to baby the watches. Though I get scratches from acrylic crystals of my Vostoks when they get bad.

·

Yeah get some polywatch on Amazon - it should help get it out - or least make is less apparent.

I wish I could do the same however i once immediately traded I’m my car because my kid puked up in it hahahaha I can’t cope with broken things.

·

I’ve changed crystals in sentimental favorites. No OCD, just watch nerdom. Unfortunately, no cure.

·

I saw your note on the crystal press But I can’t seem to find it in the post (just in my email) and I can’t pm the person because I’m a newbie however I don’t have a press but the crystal looks flat so it’s unclear to me how a seal is maintained. If I need to press it in I was going to use my pillar drill and rubber, no idea if that will work but it seems logical. Does anyone know how the glass is held in place in order to maintain a seal? does it all come from the backplate pressing on the movement to the chapter ring to the glass to and o-ring?

order a dial and hands while your at it for that custom look.

Too deep I think.

·

Ive opted to put screen protectors on some of my Casios. I like the light weight and they work pretty well. Can barely tell they are there from a glance. But if you look carefully you can see the edges. Yet another test of ones OCD and your own limits haha.

·

Ahh I didn’t know you got these, what a cool idea!

·

I have the red dial version of the same watch. I'll agree, mine must be the second most illegible. It's a shame; just a bit of white lume instead of gray would have made a tool watch more usable as a tool.

And it's wearing a tempered glass screen protector. When I asked about them here, I got lots of pushback, "It's a tool watch! Stop babying your G-Shock!" I decided those folks were being way to precious about the tool watch thing. Yeah, it's a tool for telling the time, and scratches on the dial compromise the purpose of the tool. It cost all of $10 on Amazon, and is just about completely invisible when applied. And hid the minor scratches already on the Square pretty well, too.
