Was your first luxury watch a pre-owned model?

I wonder if your first luxury watch was a pre-owned model or if you bought it brand new at your AD?

Saving some money or get the full experience at your AD?

Let me know :)

All mine have been grey market. I don't want the AD experience. Just mail it to me please.

It wasn't about the "full experience" at an AD for me. I wanted to buy my first at retail and I went to the only place I could do that. Also, I like buying new and with full warranty. In fact, I'll pay a little more at an AD to avoid potential risks with grey or pre-owned.

I wanted advice, various options to try on, and someone to bring me fancy bottled water.

I also want someone who'll stand by me and help out if the crap hits the fan.

Mail me my srpd's from Singapore and my fun watches from AliX, but for a luxury watch, I wanted a luxury experience.

I like the AD experience as much as everybody does, but when I’m knocking a 33% off the retail price by buying pre-owned in good condition, I’ll buy it pre-owned.

I'm still trying to figure out what a "luxury" watch means?

Mine was new at the AD - but back when you could walk into a Rolex AD, check out a few models, pay them money, and walk out with a watch. And the prices, while high, were not astronomical.

No way I'd play the modern games with Rolex ADs.

Mine was technically new and technically pre-owned. I happened to get a never worn SMP 300M that had already had the warranty started for a month, because a company ordered it for an employee a while in advance and then by the time they got it the employee wasn’t at the company anymore so they sold it. Best of both worlds, new watch and used price

Grey is new too, or can be new, is mostly new.

I think (and I’ve given this advice to others) your first one has to be from the AD. You should feel that once…and make them bring you champagne and swag!

I'm still trying to figure out what a "luxury" watch means?

i bet theres an official definition but for me its when its like ~50% of my monthly income for something i dont actually really need

Don't own a luxury watch lol

Never buy new, never shall- I don't see the point. 🤔

Buy lightly used,with factory warranty.

Edit - I work in retail, so have zero interest in the schmooze, champagne or any of that froth

. I'm happiest if I can do a transaction with as little human contact as possible.

I'm considering buying the Longines Legend Diver or a Seiko ZFG Marinemaster (not decided yet) and I must say that I'm very tempted to go grey. It's tempting to pay 2500€ instead of 3600€. I'll think about it, I'm not in a rush.
