Hi all,
I have recently been back on my bookshit and am trying to catch up with my overall year goal of forty (40) books. Seeing I already have a great post on here about Watches in movies, I wondered if anyone has read anything where a watch is used/noted/described or even a plot device. I am curious if any authors are watch-obsessed and sneek them into the stories, plus I want some more book recommendations.

Lake Success by Gary Shteyngart. A book by a watch enthusiast about a watch enthusiast.
In one of the Rivers Of London Novelas by Ben Aaronovitch the main protagonist is gifted with an Omega. Mechanical watches are immun to magic, obviously. 🧙♂️😄https://follypedia.fandom.com/wiki/Peter_Grant

Read them all and I'm waiting for the next one.
The character Dirk Pitt in Clive Cusslers novels wore a Doxa.
The White Mountains by John Christopher.
American Psycho, Rolex DJ, obviously. I think it was the third most mentioned brand in the book after Armani and Ralph Lauren.
Several mentions of different types of watches in the book Depth Charge.
Dan Browns: Da Vinci Code — Inferno (books made into films) make a fairly big deal out of Robert Langdon’s vintage Mickey Mouse watch. He waxes lyrical about its value as a mix of symbols fairly often, and think he gets it back after a loss at one point.
I’ll keep an eye out.
I try to follow my wife’s example and read one book for every year I am old every year. Haven’t really kept track this year though.
Edit:
Oh, Kim Sherwood in her non-bond featuring Bond spin off book definitely mentions the watches of her whole team of 00 agents, but can’t remember what they all were for the life of me.
Kafka’s father in Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore owns a Sea Dweller.
As a tortured writer, I have used watches in many of my drafts. I haven't really seen too much watch action in books though. I'm definitely going to check out some of the recommendations here.
James Bond beats a man to death with his submariner in one of the short stories I think.
And of course there’s the last season of the good place where the horrible person describes his character ina novel as ‘wearing a Rolex - a real one. ‘
Read them all and I'm waiting for the next one.
I thought I'd read them all, but somehow, Tales From The Folly had passed me by.
Had to pay a pretty penny for a signed copy from the US recently, but I have it now!
If I can include Manga, in Death Note the main character wears an Omega Speedmaster. And he modified it to have a secret compartment.
What in the hell is a “bookshit”? Was that a typo is that actually a thing?
