Webb C. Ball meets Steve McQueen?

Just noticed this new Ball Engineer III Outlier GMT.

A bit of a 1655 homage, don't you think?

Unlike most of the Ball catalog, I actually like it.

I really like it too but then again I really like the steinhart homage. Comparing the two would be interesting? I read that Steve McQueen was never pictured with the original but was just rumoured to like it?

Plus the Steinhart is a lot less than $3K.

(And yes, I do realize that the Ball is well on the way to luxury watch territory...)

There are differences, but it's pretty obvious what the inspiration was.

I came SO close to buying that watch.  I think it will probably be a stunner.  But I just can't bring myself to put money down on only renderings. If they had actual photos, I probably would be out $3K.  It ticks so many of my boxes.  About the only thing I don't love is the cyclops;  I've just never been a fan of those.  I ended up getting a C63 GMT instead and feel good about that choice.

All of that being said, I can't wait to see the Ball IRL.  I'm confident it'll be amazing.

Same here... almost pre-ordered... But really need more than renders for the amount being asked. I believe it might be a limited edition of 1000, but hoping that not all may necessarily be pre-sold so that we can see photos/videos of the actual watch when available!

After only seeing 2 CW watches in person, I got my Polar C63 GMT about a month ago. I'm still amazed how much watch it is for money.

Having said that, I probably wouldn't buy a $3K watch sight unseen.

That is the colorway I chose as well. Just got the DHL notification this morning: it will arrive next Tuesday!

Being from Ohio myself, I love the heritage of Ball. So I'm very, very tempted by that watch.  But I can't really drop $3K without serious consideration (and marital negotiation). Plus, I think the CW will fill in the "explorer" spot in my collection. So I might lean more toward other Ball offerings. I really like their James Cook special edition Trainmaster.

So many watches.  So little time.  😜
