Thoughts one this watch?

So Bamford released a new watch commemorating the Land rover Defender. It is called the LR001. It is also a limited edition. The price is around $1500. Despite the fact that this is ugly, is this a 'good' watch? Is Bamford reputable? I have never heard of them until now. I only consider this watch because my dad owned a 1997 NAS Land Rover Defender 90, the last year they were in the US. I was maybe thinking about getting this for him, (I decided to go with a different watch) but am curious if anyone has any ideas about this watch.

Good thread on it here. I can totally see picking it up if you are a fan of the Defender and at $1500, it is not too steep a price to pay given the collaboration partners.

Looking at the specs, it’s probably a good watch. Top grade Sellita and titanium.

George Bamford is a mega-wealthy trust fund playboy, but he’s REALLY into cars and watches!  He’s a true collector and engineer. Pretty sure he has a LR Defender he modified himself for his weekend off-roading club. He also has an incredible 1960 Ferrari he uses as his daily driver. You should search him on YouTube. He does a podcast with Adrian Barker and the guy from Time and Tide and he’s on classic car channels as a guest.

George Bamford does the designs himself (Think Elon Musk of Mechanical watches) and specializes in customizations and collaborations. He doesn’t make any watches from the ground up though.

Probably a good watch.

It's likely we'll constructed, but I hate when design trumps function. The 3, 6 and 9 o'clock markers are horrible.

Based on his relatively recent G-shock release, I think Bamford is a bit too up his own bum...

There’s a few things stacked against it. It’s not hideous but it’s not great looking either.

The main problem is that even after we get to know that it is Defender inspired watch, still, nothing about it actually relates to a Defender in my mind.

I can appreciate, without any experience at it, how hard it must be to design these things.
Especially when we collectively associate Defenders as those loving boxy shapes.

I guess they went for the New Defender as the inspiration and honestly it misses the mark for me as I have no relation with that car at all.
And then there’s the price, which I’m sure can be very well justified, but it’s still a bit of an uninspired piece.

I could be completely wrong...
But I thing I know what top Sales Consultants at Land Rover showrooms will have for Christmas.
