Opinions and thoughts, more importantly which stays which goes.

Hello to all at WC, I posted this elsewhere and got a lot of feedback mostly positive and opinions. So I'm here to see if the Watch crunch community can give me thoughts on which watches would better compliment each other as I'm looking to not only downsize but have a complete balance of watch types or category. I love all sorts of watches but the least wrist time would be a dress watch. Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Sure! My advice would be to sell the SBGY009… to me! 😜

Just my $0.02, given all my personal biases, if that were my collection, and I were looking to downsize, I would sell the following...

  • The Rolexes - In spite of them being such in-demand watches, they're incredibly common. Given that Rolex sell something like 1M / year, and have been the largest luxury brand by volume and revenue for some time now, they're ubiquitous. And, given that you have GP and GS and GO in your collection, what that tells me is that you're a pretty hardcore watch nerd, in which case, the Rolexes would free up lots of money to put into other interesting, more off-the-beaten path options

  • The Tudors - For all the same reasons as for Rolex

And, finally, give me the SBGY009.

·

Nah, cant see much there worth keeping...🤣

·

I’ll get my coat….

If I were paring this down, I would put together a list of what I wanted in my collection; watch types, complications, case materials, dial colors, etc. Then I would try to pick watches that fit those criteria; keeping in mind I want less watches than more; thereby lending more weight to pieces that could cover more than one criteria.

So for example, if I wanted to have a collection with a diver, a white dial, a dress watch, a moon phase and a proper mid-century vintage piece, If I had one watch that clicked off the dial, the dress watch the moon phase & the mid-century vintage criteria, it would likely remain in the collection over a white dialed diver.

Of course, this all goes right out the window when "Keep what you love" is added to the equation.

·

Thats a lot of Rolexs!

·

If you want specifics, I would keep one Rolex (probably the DJ) and one Tudor, the gold & green dial GP, the Tag black dial with silver subdials, the Sinn, the Seiko, the Navitimer, and whichever GS goes best with your suits.

Interesting in selling off Rolex the brand people want in which there is awaiting list, brand new that is. I will down size eventually but not really looking to add but rather remove pieces and enjoy the ones I want. Rolex makes a beautifully made super accurate bullet proof tome piece BTW. I appreciate your take as we all collect diferently

Agree, elsewhere I was more specific in that I said the watches i gravita towards are divers, tool, sporty watches. Chronograph, true GMT and power reserve, seconds are nice.

I like your choices. The 24HR Navi ain't going nowhere for sure.

·

Thats a lot of Rolexs!

True, but one shouldn't ignore the AD when they reach out, especially when on the list. I think the Explorer polar and a Kermit is good enough.

I might even ditch the Sinn or the Seiko for the Polar Explorer GMT. Yeah, I would.

·

Too many Tag Chronos, sell one or two. Sell one of the Rolex Explorer II no point in having two. Sell one of the GP's. Sell at least on if not two Grand Seikos. Diversify use the money to diversify and get funky.

·

Wow congratulations on amassing that collection! That zenith revival is really interesting and the GS and GPs are awesome.

If you want to downsize maybe put half of the collection away for a couple months and see what you reach for. I’d sell the new green sub and use some of the funds to buy a jubilee for the datejust.

·

I'd get rid of at least one of the Hulks, one explorer, and one Tag. Your choice.

Sounds logical, but two Kermit's is better than one😜seriously you may not notice the green is different but yeah I get it pretty much the same watch.

·
LouisBucketHat

I think I need more education. I’m super curious about the Kermit V2 and the Starbucks. I own the Starbucks from 2023 but didn’t know there was another version and this peaks my interest significantly!

Hey Louis, yeah in May-June 2023 Rolex quietly released the new green bezel to better match and pay tribute to the 50th anniversary 2003 Kermit. Adrien Barker from YT notice it first at a watch event, you can see the difference on Rolexmagazine.com the unofficial webpage.

It's possible, my AD wouldn't want me to sell it right away that's called flipping and you know that is something many AD especially Rolex is trying to stop.

Sort and keep the best movements. Like cars , the best engineered and ascetically pleasing, categories after the first two .

I like your idea, I've think about the caliber every time I consider buying a watch, I live in house manufacture cause it shows that there's an effort within the brand to produce something worth investing. There's a lot of great third party movements but I like everything under one roof, JLC, A. Lange Sohne, Glashutte etc. Cheers

wow, killer collection 🎯 only thing missing are some casios!

I may have look into a Casio. Check

You first of all have an awesome collection. Each one would be a grail in my collection. As far as pairing down though, ive looked at it as how does it fit into my lifestyle? Why would i get it/keep it? Can i really make memories with ... special memories? You say the least worn type of watch would be a dress so definitely one of the GS which can also maybe double as semi casual? I dont know all references, but in the second picture either of the light blue GS would be a beautiful keeper. I like the idea of keeping one or two Rolex, making it that much more special for you. Hope this was a little helpful. Good luck.

Hey Jones, thanks for your advice which makes a whole lot of sense. To be honest I've moved so many watches thru the years but now I'm ready to settle down and start a family or a collection of children. Cheers my man.

I love your Rolex’s GO Zenith Tudor and your GPs too , I would get rid of the Selita movement personally and keep just the in house also :) Lucky problem you have , love your collection. :)

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if it were a couple years old and what is acceptable in that regard. As somebody who hangs on to his watches, I’m definitely not trying to advocate flipping…great watch to hold on to either way 😁. And once again congrats on the great collection.

·

Killer collection, those GP are my grail

·

Looks like you have some doubles; is that 2 Kermit's? Everyone is different, though I personally would feel overwhelmed with that many.

I suppose getting rid of doubles/similar watches first, then work out which are more meaningful to you. The less watches you have, then more you might appreciate them.

the one on the left is the new release lighter green bezel just released, Adrien Barker from YT mentions it first. I got the call from my AD this weekend, the other is also the current one but replace in May 2023 both are new purchases.

What is the end goal in regards to quantity ?

Remember, this is your collection. You never need to justify anything to anyone. You could have 48 of the same watch and as long as you're happy, that's fine.

Don't take people's responses here seriously. Not at all. My advice is also don't determine your collection according to investment/resale value. No matter how much you try to rationalise it, and no matter how often YTers might say it, watches aren't investments. They're frivolous spending trinkets which much us happy.

Wear them in good health.
