“Buyer Remorse or Honeymoon phase”

Honeymoon phase or Buyers remorse?

We always talk about the honeymoon phase and never wanting to take a new time

Piece off.

The funny thing is I am sure I have never had that. But I do always suffer from buyers remorse. I find myself having to live with this object for a continuous amount of time to appreciate what it is. I’ve had my green OP for almost a year now and I just recently have said “Ya I F*%kin love this thing!” I am sure I will have the same realization with my explorer.

Does anyone else find that it’s usually never love at first site? And if it is love at first site does anyone else feel like it winds and wanes for a period before it solidifies?

I've experienced both.

I've had watches that I've fallen in love with immediately. Some I continue to love. Others I've grown cold on.

And I've had watches that didn't inspire me much at first, only to find months (years?) later that I grow to appreciate something about them strongly.

Most of my purchases are very considered. I takes a long time time to decide to buy... That said, buyers remorse hit me at first when I got my tank. I fixed that buy purchasing straps that weren't black and now my tank is in my regular rotation. I f'ing love that watch now.

I'm sure there's a deep psychological reason why this occurs, and I'm sure someone here is more qualified than me to tell you what it is (and will be along shortly to do so).

I will offer to relieve you of your burden. Let me know if you need my shipping address.

Seems like the least I can do to help...

Remorse and honeymoon phases are just YIN & YANG of the same coin. Enjoy both as part of the experience …:)

I have yet to find a coin with only one side.

I did with a few pieces when I first started. But now I make sure I’m in love with that piece before I waste my time and money. If it doesn’t hit me right away I don’t buy it. Later, a piece that didn’t hit me instantly may finally resonate with me and THEN I’ll buy it. Just the way I go about it.

100%

  • I'll go nuts for a watch online, and can't stop thinking about it

  • Then, I get it, and I'm usually kinda "meh" about it

  • I'll start thinking, "Why did I waste all that money on this thing?"

  • Then, after some more time, I'll realized, "Oh, I have nothing else interesting to spend money on, so WTF was I going to spend the money on otherwise?"

  • And, I think, that's when I realize, "Wow, this watch is awesome!"

One trick I use is to spend a long time mulling over if I really want that watch. The more expensive it is, the longer I think about it. My contemplation period so far has been:

Rolex: 2 years(even before approaching an AD)

Omega: 1 year(from trying on to purchasing)

Tudor: 6 months(from considering the purchase to purchasing it)

Seiko: 4 months (in the back of mind, bought when I saw it in person)

I guess the trick is to condition your mind to consider the specific amount of money as sunken cost so you don’t get the remorse later on.

Right after I swiped my card to pay I would feel a huge buyes remorse.

But when I’m home and put the watch on my wrist I’m in love again.

Being a watch trader fixes all of that 😉. I buy smart & low, rock it until I’m over it & then break even or make a profit.

·

I don’t think i’ve ever had buyers remorse for a watch. my watch purchases tend to be very considered. but even then sometimes when i get the watch in hand it doesn’t wow me as much as i had originally thought. it doesn’t happen for every watch. then it just takes me a few days to rediscover what i loved about it. and then i’m fine. i’ve never had a watch that i ended up regretting all together. i always fall back in love with it after that initial cooling period.

Both for me. It was love at first sight with my Submariner and Explorer II. But with my Speedmaster and Datejust 41 it took a while of back and forth and trying it on a few times before deciding to buy them. Now I love them both every time I wear them.

You have the green OP too? Nice taste!
