My first luxury watch

About six weeks ago I purchased my first luxury timepiece. Took me about two years to finally pull the trigger, after loads of extensive research and learning (also learning about myself and refining my taste). Since I'm into classic menswear, I knew that my first luxury item would have to be elegant - but also suited to be a trusty daily wear, with a reasonable amount of GADA toughness. Favorably, the design should be backed by tradition, with an unbroken lineage. And all of that in the 1-2k price region.

So I finally settled for the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date in 36mm. The release of the new 38mm in-house reference (which I like and respect, but don't love) finally made me put my money on the counter, since I had no idea whether Oris might discontinue the previous model altogether, with all of its lovely vintage details (coin edge bezel, cathedral hands etc.) gone.

And what can I say... I couldn't be happier with my decision. I smile every time I check the time - what more do we want?

Have you guys also pondered extensively about your very first upscale purchase? And what has been your specific rationale behind it?

Great pick up! Congrats!

Beautiful watch! The value is definitely well represented in this watch. I believe this watch is elegant, but not too elegant to not go with tshirt and jeans.

Congrats!

Congratulations - hope you enjoy it. I like how the red on the date pointer matches your shirt.

That Oris is beautiful! My wife is considering the mint green one in 36mm herself - she likes going for the oversized look. Her other watch is a 39mm Longines Tuxedo

Yup, the mint green is a looker, for sure. As if Oris predicted the green craze, without going for the obvious, saturated hue.

Great watch! The Big Crown collection is on my radar as well, as I’m looking for a similar watch. there are things that I don’t find really compelling about this one, but it’s a great watch nonetheless. If they’d make this size in red I’d buy it immediately

Reverso, Datejust and a vintage Santos - those are my main aspirational pieces as well. The great thing about the Oris Pointer Date is, that - for me - it itches the scratch without being a mere substitute. Too much of a personality in its own right. ☺️

Absolutely love it. Great choice. Wear the hell out of it!

Great watch. possibly my next purchase but can't decide whether to invest in in-house movement.

The technical prowess as well as the peace of mind when it comes to warranty and service interval are impressive. I can totally see why others might opt for the new 38mm.

Congrats.

Still contemplating what my first is gonna be. The explorer 124270 has been living rent free in my head for months now

It’s hard to go wrong with an Oris.
