New Arrival on the bench Vintage 1981 Seiko 7548-700B

New arrival this lovely vintage 7548 with the less common blue dial with the Pepsi bezel.

The Watch had been sitting unused for 15 years so I didn’t know what I would find under the Caseback.

Well what did I find the tightest Seiko case back that I have come across to date I had to soak a little bit of CRC lube around the case back seal and leave for around half hour before I could get the back to release.

luckily the battery hadn’t leaked so all appeared Ok. With a battery change it sprung back to life.

The only issue with this one is the main hands which have lume rot I will carefully try to clean and tidy them up it appears that the nickel plating hasn’t been eaten by the rot.

Full restoration post to follow.

Another Seiko stunner mate, love these old Seiko's. It reminds me of my SKX009

Before I found a OEM Hardlex crystal and swapped it out, I even found a OEM bracelet for it in Australia.

I put a polished fixed bezel on it just to see what it would look like dressed up, I think it looks good and reminds of a Tudor BB in a small way.

I'm curious to see if you can clean up those hands, otherwise the watch appears to be in good shape.

Nice! I’m curious myself to see what you‘ll be able to manage with those hands. I’ve felt the pain of re-plating damaged nickel on Lume rottened hands

I’ve previously done a tidy up of lume rot on similar hands with good results as long as the rot hasn’t eaten into the nickel plating. The options are :

  1. As above clean off.
  2. Remove old lume and relume hands.
  3. If above not bringing good results fit new aftermarket hands-last resort.

Or find another similar period watch (with good original hands of course) and cannibalize it.  I've done the parts watch thing several times.

nice watch. It seems to be like a quartz Skx. I never saw one before.

Yes it’s the quartz version of the 6309 and they carried the design through to the SKX series
