End of year state of the collection

It's been a good year, watch- and otherwise. I've bought, sold, and traded a few watches, but I usually don't remember, and if I did remember it would have been a mistake, right?

The collection now sits at 14 watches. Here they are:

Swatch from the 80s I guess. Found a flee market earlier this year, needed a battery and strap.

Image

Tactical Frog FXD copy. Bought in December. Just trying this out for fun, and will probably move it on soon. I was sceptical of the Tudor FXD due to its "flatness" for the lack of a better word, but the TF has shown be that it's not an issue.

Image

Standard square G-shock. Of course.

Image

Dornbluth 99.1M. Bought in May after a 14 month wait. Totally worth the wait, and one of this years highlights.

Image

Citizen I got for my birthday last year. It came with me on a roadtrip thought Europe this summer, a great companion.

Image

Micromilspec. I got this in the early summer, and it was used a lot during the summer.

Image

Omega 2254. Another favourite of the year. I traded my explorer 1 for this one (plus some cash of course). The best looking seamaster in my opinion. And very thin.

Image

Cartier Tank Basculante. What a unique watch.

Image

Nomos Lambda in steel. Nomos' best movement and a great value package in steel.

Image

Grand Seiko antimagnetic. Does not get a lot of use, but my first luxury watch and is very sentimental, and therefore, will stay. I just need to find some good straps for it, as the bracelet is subpar (at least for a wrist that changes as much as mine does during any given day).

Image

Explorer 2. Got this at the end of last year, and was probably the most used watch up until the summer. Still my favourite Rolex by far.

Image

VC FiftySix. Traded a Blancpain and a Nomos for this one. Fantastic entry into VC and as a friend said: Vacheron for Omega money (refer to the massive increase in retail of the speedmaster).

Image

Cartier Tank Must black. God this last year to celebrate my PhD, and really like it, too bad I don't dress the impress most days.

Image

Finally, one of the best purchases this year. 40% discount from an AD at the tail end of summer. This Seiko Tuna was a great pickup. I wear it when I don't want to set another watch or for doing physical labor.

Image

Ok, so that was a lot. I'll just end with the plans for next year. I have two watch ordered. One I've been waiting for for over a year now, and one which I ordered in September. One is exciting and one is quite boring, but equally classic. Fingers crossed for a great 2024 for watches and otherwise.

Congratulations on your PhD Erik! Out of curiosity, what field of study did you get it in?

Generally, I’m not a super big fan of dress watches but that VC is an absolute stunner. You entire collection is beautiful but that VC in particular really stood out for me with its elegant design.

Thanks 🙏 I did computer science for my degree.

I feel like the VC is not a pure dress watch, it can be you’re everyday watch, especially when you sit at a desk like me.

·

Great way to show off the state of the collection! Some great pieces in there too. Loving the VC and the black tank. (Congratulations on the PhD as well, work well done!).

·

That’s a very well thought of collection! Well done!

Very impressive, a PhD is a huge accomplishment. Will you be staying in academia or will you be going to the public/private sector?

I agree, the VC definitely looks like a GADA watch that leans a bit more dressy as opposed to say a Tudor BB which can be GADA but leans more sporty. I think that’s really the hallmark of a great watch :).

What a well curated collection 👏🏻

Thanks 🙏 already moved to a private company, but maybe I’ll return one day.

·

I’ll take the VC please

·

That GS is so cool 👌love the Dornbluth too, you have an awesome collection.

Another blake seamaster owner, I must applaud that. I am really intrigued by the vc aince i found out about them some month ago. I really like the case design and probably the fact that it seems it is not a well received model in the range. Always good for approachable price point on the 2nd end market.

The 2254 is amazing 🤩

As a friend of mine said: it’s VC for omega money. I paid about the same as a new speedmaster. The movement is not up to standard as the other VC movements. It does not have the Geneva seal for example. But in my opinion, it’s a really good daily watch.

Great collection 👏🏻👏🏻 versatile, with a few iconic pieces and fun pieces as well 👌🏻
