Tudor BB58 To buy or not buy?!

I have been on a hunt now for the last year to find the perfect wearing dimensions of an everyday diver to suit my 6.6inch wrist. Initially I didn’t think I’d be that into the BB58 but after seeing it in person, it felt damn near perfect for dimensions and understated style, I was enamored… Everything people mention as being a bother doesn’t phase me.

My ONLY complaint is that there’s not a date version option 😩The date window on a watch is as much a tool to me as telling time. However this seems to be the theme with almost every popular smaller watch, no date window version 😣

So far I’ve tried these watches for the last 12 months…

the omega seamaster heritage 300 (no date) Absolutely love this watch but it doesn’t feel as much an every day wearer with the mirror polished bracelet and it is thick coming in at 14mm with sapphire glass crystal.

And also the 2022 Omega SMP black dial. I love this watch minus it wearing slightly on the larger side. Although perfectly fine, i find my self wishing it was smaller.

What have your experiences been with the Tudor BB58. Does the No date bother you if you usually opt for having a date?

I have had mine almost 2 years and I dont plan of getting rid of it. The lack of date has never bothered me.

·

I used to avoid watch without date, but got used to it. Now I sort of like no date for its aesthetics

I appreciate the article! No offense, but any article that still states Tudor buyers as not being able to afford a Rolex doesn’t make any sense with todays brand of Tudor, and is outdated opinion 😅 so I have to respectfully disagree. I can afford a top tier Rolex watch but I prefer not to be associated with the pretentious brand name that goes with it, as well as the ass kissery involved in buying one at retail. Tudor is the perfect understated sleeper brand name in todays world. Nonetheless, I welcome the different perspective, so thank you!

I like my BB58 a lot. The only real problem I have with it is the lack of a proper tool-less micro adjust clasp makes it too tight or loose to wear some days without getting out half links and a screw driver.

I also strongly prefer a date. Why not look at the Pelagos 39? I can also recommend the Omega Planet Ocean 39.5. It's thick on paper, but not bad on wrist. Maybe a little heavy for an every single day wear.

The article @OscarKlosoffWatch cited was most certainly a joke piece. If I recall correctly, the premise of the series was to try to convince you to not buy something you already wanted (de-influencing as it were).

As it happens, I think you're already on board with the BB58 (and why not? It's lovely if you're into the look). But it's not for everyone and most certainly isn't for me.

The experiences of my friends with the BB58 have been mixed. I've heard an number of complaints about movement issues, QC issues, and the bracelet. I'd probably buy from the AD if I were going for it, in order to protect myself with a warranty.

Have you tried the BB Pro ,same size same wr and a date function

·

Try the BB54

I have tried it on. A beautiful watch indeed! However the 14mm thickness bothers me if I’m being honest. Plus, I feel the design of the bb58 to be more versatile. However I am still considering the pro!

Oh no, I had no idea! Thanks for clarifying that 😂you make very good points! And worst case, I can always sell the watch and move on to another piece. Thanks for the input!

I agree, the non micro adjust on clasp is a bummer. I don’t know why Tudor doesn’t release a date version BB58 with micro adjust on clasp. People would scramble all over again to buy it, and those that didn’t want a date window would just buy the bracelet. Problem solved for everyone!

Yea I’ve tried the planet ocean 39.5mm. Very cool watch! However whenever I compared to the omega SMP, the SMP always won out for me even with the bigger size. Pelagos 39 is very cool and I wanted it for a while, then I tried the BB58 in store and immediately liked it more.

As someone who likes having a date, I miss it when it's not there. I can tell you that I'm 15 months into owning a BB GMT, and I'm very happy with it. IMHO the thickness of the GMT stops being an issue the more that you wear it and as you get used to it.

I owned the BB58, nothing to complain about the dimensions and wearability. The thing I hated the most was the bracelet, I never got a good fit due to the lack of micro adjustments. The links are long and they complicate the fit of the watch especially when there is no half links. I wore it on a strap until I sold the watch. Im someone who looks at the watch to see the date more than the time so I really missed the date complication which for me personally is the biggest use of my watch. Especially if you are going to use it for everyday use, no date cam be a let down.

The BB54 is much more nicer option for your wrist size, they did some good changes and curved the case slightly to make it wear better plus the T-fit clasp is a extra advantage. No date again unfortunately but if you are going the BB58 way, the BB54 will be much nicer for your wrist size.

The bb58 appears bigger in this photo, in person it doesn’t reach the ends of my wrist lug to lug. I wear 36mm field watches and love them, however for a diver the bb54 just felt way to dainty. Thanks for the input!

·

My mistake, I though that was the 41mm BB.

No worries! After a couple comments I did find myself comparing the lug to lug of the same 47.5mm dimensions as the BB58. In person it’s fine, so I’m good to go 😂

I had the BB58 for almost 2 years. Great watch. I only sold it on when I got the call for the non date Submariner. I prefer the non date, but each to their own.

Looks great on your wrist. Perfect size. 👌

Hey thanks for the input! First one to say it’s the right size 😂 I swear it looks much bigger in this photo.

Enjoy the sub, sounds like you got your grail watch.

That thing really pops on ur wrist man! Yeh that’s what happened with me and my BB58 Blue. When I tried it, it just felt so right. I am a date guy, but I do agree with people that non date looks better aesthetically.

·

I love my BB58 black, looks great on the bracelet, leather, nato, rubber, pretty much anything. Recently tried it on the tropic strap and it looks fantastic. Fits great on my 6.5 inch wrist. I’ve checked BB54 and to be honest I like BB58 much more, the only thing that I liked in BB54 is the improved clasp. I don’t think you will ever regret if you will buy it. You can check some of BB58 photos in my profile.

Thanks for the input! I felt the exact same way about the 54 after trying it on... It could grow on me, but it felt too small for a dive watch. I prefer the 36mm size for my field watches, but it just did not feel suitable for a diver. That clasp though!! tudor just needs to make it an option to buy. And why not? They make every combination under the sun for the black bay and don't just allow people the improved clasp for bb58 😭

Thank you! I agree, No date does look better. But if we want to talk about watches as "tools" then a date will always make a watch more useful!

Thanks all for your support, I pulled the trigger on the Tudor and currently running the rounds on all the straps… I love it!

·

My black bay is no date and I do not miss it at all.

·

Personally I prefer no date, I have a big rotation so it’s easier not having to deal with that if I haven’t worn something for a while. And because of my research I don’t believe in winders.

Interesting, do you think winders contribute to wearing out a movement faster? I have wondered that myself and don’t use them. I wear each watch enough to were it’s never setting for a super long period

·

You will here different schools of thought but I heard a long conversation with a watch maker when the subject came up- he said that with the new synthetic lubricants, which don’t tend to dry out, no reason to add the wear. It’s a me mechanical device and movement causes wear so why move if not needed? Made the most sense to me.
