Example of great customer service from eBay

I wanted to highlight a case of great customer service from ebay.

I bought this awesome Patek golden ellipse at a good price (seriously - get on the ellipse train before the world cottons on) - and anyway - it went through the authentication service.

It arrived and I was super happy with the watch itself - however - the archive extract was not present. Presumably lost by the authenticator. As you know - it will cost £450 to get another one from Patek.

I raised a customer service complaint and it’s been the best experience I’ve had with eBay ever. An agent that understood the issue immediately. A thorough investigation. I was kept in regular contact with updates. And ultimately - a great outcome for me (a refund for the cost of getting a new extract.)

There are a lot of customer complaints about eBay - so I wanted to share an example of a time something went right. Thanks to Sarah from the team there.

It never was established where the archive extract went. The seller was super specific about how it was packed, and it would be of no value to them. The authenticator denies losing it - but it would be so easy to overlook in amongst packaging.

Good story.

But buying a Patek on ebay???? You're a braver man than me!!!!! Even a screamin' deal for a PP too risky for me.

Doesn't Keanu Reeves wear one?

I buy & sell watches on eBay. I encourage others to try & learn to do the same. It can lead to some great additions to any collection. I'm happy to hear things worked out for you.

I bought a vintage Hamilton on ebay and it turned out the Seller was a store in Beverly Hills and it was serviced and runs amazing. The price was very good also. It's hit and miss I bought a vintage Bulova and that one didn't turn out so great.

Haha, nothing for sale at the moment. I sell on more of a “time to make room for another piece” level. It’s not quite a store as others have set up. But being involved with selling, shipping & providing watch specs really helps with what should be expected when buying & vice versa.

Oh I’ve bought and sold all sorts. Up to and including solid gold Rolex day dates. Just have to have your wits about you. Some real bargains to be had.
