A desire to get a more expensive watch than my older brother. The reason was a bit naive but I ended up with a nice watch and started an expensive hobby.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Swatch Hiding Grey gifted to me by my Auntie during a visit to the US in 2012, when I was 10.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My dad bought me a designer brand watch for Christmas 2015, which was my second watch ever. But shortly after, my older brother received a more expensive Casio Edifice for his gift. I was pretty annoyed that he got something I'd wanted for Christmas, but better. So in March of 2016, I convinced my dad to buy me a Seiko Flightmaster, the first watch of my collection. The designer brand watch is gone and my brother's Edifice is broken but the Seiko's still going strong.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
(Multiple pieces of advice): Don't immediately overspend. Do a lot of research online to find out which watches intrigues you. Buy a single watch at a time. Join a community like WatchCrunch. Etc.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
For some reason I always veer towards Japanese watches, as I want to maintain a particular theme for my collection. Seiko, Citizen, Casio, Orient, and Kuoe are the companies of the watches I bought.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
The Grand Seiko SBGW221. It is just so aesthetically pleasing to me, and I'm not even sure I can exactly point out why I like how it looks so much.
