Sitting here, looking at my pilot watches, I thought, 'Is Seiko holding back on their aviation heritage?' Companies like Stowa, IWC, and Laco pride themselves on their combat heritage, while Seiko seems to hide it or not flaunt their heritage, missing out, in my opinion. I know WW2 is a taboo subject in Japan, What do you guys think? And which other companies fail to show off their heritage?

I think they lean into it quite well and are one of only a handful of modern watchmakers still supplying to the military in limited numbers.
Kudos to a fellow #seiko 7T34-6A00 #flightmaster owner!
I've got the SNA414 (as opposed to your 411)
Don't forget the #pulsar flight #chronographs either!

Those models are quite old now. If you think about it in the pass 3 years the only pilot style watch was the Seiko 5. There were rumors about a new flighty but nothing released. I guess maybe their Astron many being world timers count as modern pilots watches. I do think Citizen is doing a better job on the Pilot watch department.

If we know anything about #seiko it's their penchant for #reissues and/or "reinterpretation"... With that in mind, how about a #prospex #speedtimer with flight computer bezel?
Seems totally legit!

Funny enough I think they tried but most of them solar. (all pretty much discontinued) . Again I feel like they don't put any efforts to their pilots watches in term of marketing and what people want.
The most sought after are the mechanicals and the Flighty with weird color combinations:
Around 2k
This one is impossible to find:
This one is pretty over price
These are also very rare flightys
Personally a new Prospex flighty I will be all over that.
Would love to know what the Kamikaze pilots wore during those times. Is that a necklace watch shown in the picture of a Japanese pilot?

I actually saw the #white #flightmaster on eBay a week or so ago for about USD$200 but the bezel was seriously beat up. Currently an SND255 is near the top of my list of acquisitions.
But finding one with a minty #bezel is proving difficult.
Now the All Nippon Airways Flightmaster(s) are interesting, with the airline's acquisition of a fleet of Boeing 777s each stocking one of 3 or 4 variants:
Going back, there are the ones based on the SND255
And the #solar version
Plus the various #worldtime versions and #fliegers 😜

When I went to the Seiko Museum in Ginza Japan it was in a very odd place and it was not called WW2 watch or pilots watch. If it wasn't that I was actually looking for it I wouldn't have known that was the Kamikaze watch.

I'm not sure about the giant onion crown, but (re)imagine that as a #seiko5 ... Scratch that, imagine the #presage version!
(#prospex Sky Professional hanging out in the back there totally chill...😜)

I can tell from here that bezel has backplay. And only Hardlex crystal! No wonder the Kamikaze pilots crashed on purpose.
