Import tax question importing into UK

Hello Folks,

I have been look at few watches in Japan and USA , I was wondering has anyone imported into UK here? What’s you experience with import taxes? Is it standard vat 20%? Any advice?

You may have to pay VAT at 20%. You may also have to pay import / customs fees and brokerage fees from the courier.

20% on the value of the watch+postage, and as above you may need to pay the courier a small sum (say £25) for their handling fee. You might also get lucky and have nothing charged at all, I've had a couple of expensive watches slip through.

Wear it in and out of the country of purchase and back in before going home , in Australia that negates the need to declare it apparently!

I purchased my oceanus through Ebay from Japan and paid 20% +£15 handling but I have heard of people buying from AliExpress and not paying tax or fees but it is definitely a bit random.
