Longines Event - Come Fly With Us

It feels like the Swatch Group keeps outdoing themselves! There was the Tissot pool party last summer to unveil their new Seastar collection. Then Hamilton earlier this month held a fancy penthouse party to release their new Jazzmaster Performer series. Well yesterday Longines unveiled their new pilot watches at the island airport here in Toronto!

We were driven to the event in black SUVs (Yukon Denali for me), then escorted through the airport so we felt like total celebs haha. Upon arrival to the event space, we were greeted with mimosas, given our Longines "pilot wings", and asked to choose from a variety of watches to enjoy on the flight. I picked the Sector Dial while my friend correctly chose the new Pilot Majetek. We then hopped into a Longines helicopter and got a nice tour of downtown Toronto! Here's my recap video:

The Pilot Majetek was actually released last month so the star of this event is the brand new Spirit Flyback Chronograph with a gorgeous sunburst blue dial. Longines was actually the first to patent this complication in 1936!

A brand ambassador from Switzerland was on hand with several pieces from the Longines Museum like an actual pilot-worn Majetek 😮

Here seen next to the reissue:

I only found out after taking this wristshot that this was a museum piece... woops lol

Another notable appearance was an original Ultra-Chron double-wristed by the brand's ambassador with the reissue:

The event ended with a lunch where we got our loot bags before being driven home. An incredible experience and definitely one for the books! 😎

Wow, that sounds like it was a fun event.

I was quite intrigued with the new Spirit Flyback Chrono until I saw how thick it is. What was it like in person?

It's no thicker than any other modern 7750 based chrono. But yes, you'd need an 18cm (7 inch) wrist or bigger I think 🤔

Man... all I ever got from Grand Seiko was a t-shirt, a ceramic tile, and a water bottle!

The least they could do is take me up in a fighter jet or maybe fill a hot tub with Japanese whiskey for me to bathe in!

I had heard it was 17mm thick. I have several chronographs, and none are that beefy.

As a helicopter pilot, I freaking love this.

If I'm invited to be in a sumo suit to wrestle in Japan, would you be my +1?

I'll be getting it soon, so stay tuned for more hands-on review 👍

As a helicopter pilot, I freaking love this.

As anxious as I was, it was a surprisingly very smooth and gentle flight!

Thanks for sharing. Feel free to not answer if it’s too private - how does one get invited to these events? Do you need to know a friend, work in the industry, be an influencer, or spend a certain amount?

No secret here! I'm still shocked to be invited to these and I assume it could be all the above as you mentioned. But for me, it's for my Instagram and while I dislike the term, I guess I fall under "influencer".

Thanks for including us here on Watchcrunch. Think there’s plenty of folks (myself included) who aren’t on Instagram

Ah I guess I’m a special case because I blocked Instagram through Screen Time. Social media is too addictive for me so better to remove the temptation
