Over the last weeks and months, I was looking for something that is not a diver or a field watch, has some background and history (without being vintage, I do not feel to be ready for this path) and is a little outside the budget I have set for myself (my watches are all less than 500€ at the moment).
Looking around, I came across the Alpinist. So, when checking the market for models, prices etc., I finally decided for this model.
The strap needs some breaking in, I need to get a little used to the dial and number coloring (I was not sure about the gold tones) but overall and from the first impression, it feels and looks nice, I have to say.
Could be probably a keeper!

Imho one of if not the best watch for the price.
A damn fine choice ! Congrats mate 🎉👍🏻

Thanks a lot! I am happy that I pulled the trigger on it!
Hi mate, really beautifull watch🫡 Is that the green and gold dial?

Thanks a lot! Yes, it is! Normally, I am more boring as I have predominantly black dials. But the Alpinist with the black dial (SPB117) has no numbers on it and I did not like this. The other versions I looked at were the SPB197 and the SPB199. But they were too high in price and I was too impatient now 😉

I can understand that mate.
Class watch mate. Congratulations!

Thanks!
Great choice. I have one of those high on my own list for the year.
Congratulations! I’ve waffled between this and the “baby” version but not likely to buy either very soon. Nice to live vicariously through others’ purchases here. 😉
I'm one of those that prefer the white date window like you purchased. The previous model with the black date window was hard to read and if I'm going to have a date complication I want to see it.
I ended up selling the one with the black date window and keeping the same model as yours. BTW I've heard that any bracelet with an end link that fits a Hamilton Khaki Mechanical 38mm will also fit your Alpinist.
I have the older version, biggest piece of advice is ditch the strap. The watch really shines on some nice leather/bracelets. Congrats and wear it in good health!
i love this model🫡
A classic from Seiko, what is there to add? I hope it brings you many years of enjoyment!
Edit: now I know what to add: check out strapcode and uncle straps if you want to change the strap for a nice bracelet.
Beautiful! 😍
This is on my watch watchlist 😄
Thanks!
Put mine on a Milinase strap as the leather strap they supply is crap.
Definitely a keeper mine made my Final Cut of 6 watches down from 17
Congrats! I envy your ability to downsize that significantly! But I really understand why the Alpinist is in the reduced collection!
Beautiful! 😍
Thanks!

Fully understand why!

It‘s not that good, I agree. Will look around for a good alternative!
I love mine! I put it on a #strapcode bracelet

Yes, looks great!
I saw and heard lots about the alpinist but until I saw it in person last weekend I didn't realize what a beauty it is. Really awesome watch, congratulations on your new purchase!

Thanks a lot! Yes, it is even better when you see it in real life!
I bought the exact same watch today, to commemorate mine and my son’s first trip to Japan. He went with his favourite - G-Shock. Both feelin the love! Enjoy!
