Circula Divesport Titanium 500m Review

I discovered Circula at the London microbrand event in London last September. They had been on my radar but after trying on several of their watches and talking with their Boss Cornelius Huber I knew I had to have one!

Image

Circula are a German microbrand revived a few years ago by Cornelius who is the grandson of the founder Heinz Huber. They are based in Pforzheim Germany where the company was originally founded in 1955.

Circula has a solid reputation for building well made and highly specified watches at a reasonable price point. Most sit a little south of £1k. Several divers and a field watch. The divesport was produced after a long consultation process with existing owners and enthusiasts which is a model other brands could do well to explore.

Image

I have a thing for titanium divers so the divesport was always going to be my choice. I own a 42mm Pelagos and a Phoibos Apollo v3 and the divesport has much in common with both.

It's built of grade 2 titanium but has been surface hardened up to 1200 vickers. So far it hasn't scratched at all ( unlike the bracelet and clasp of the pelagos).

Image

It's a chunky piece( pictured centre above) 42mm diameter 48.5mm lug to lug 20mm lug width and 13.4mm height ( not including the saphire crystal). But of course being fully titanium it's light and comfortable to wear on either the quality fitted rubber strap or hardened titanium bracelet( with decent milled clasp).

I chose a hardened titanium bezel with the green scratch pattern dial). The dial reminds me of some of the offerings from Christopher Ward). There are now four dial options the newest being a striking light grey which works well with the titanium.

Image

The hour hand is undersized and the minute hand oversized. It's odd but it seems to work! Certainly legibility is excellent with the applied indices and hour hand coated in superluminova BGW9 and the minute hand and bezel coated in C3X1. The lume does not disappoint!

Image

Movement wise the divesport has the sellita SW 200-1 with a 41 power reserve regulated to -5+7 seconds per day. My movement measurement phone app supports this claim

Image

Cornelius told me each watch accuracy is checked before it leaves them and I have found that to be the case.

The interesting case back shows titanium in its raw form apparently which is certainly a talking point.

So if you have got this far I suspect you like a well spec'd titanium diver as I do!

I'm a fan of some of the Sinn watches and this Circula compares favourably against the T50 which has the same movement but costs four times the price.

I'm very happy with my purchase and I think Circula are a brand that is going from strength to strength.

Thanks for reading!

  • A proper tool watch
  • 1200 vickers hardened titanium!
  • Excellent bracelet and rubber strap option
  • That scratched green dial!
  • Value for money
  • It's a tall watch
  • Undersized hour hand not for everyone!

Great review. It’s a little big for my tastes, but I like the brand. I like the colour of the dial, and don’t doubt the build quality.

I did have an Aquasport II at one point, but sold it because it wasn’t getting much wrist time. I’m eagerly anticipating what Circula come up with next - I believe I’ve seen reference to a new sports watch for later this year.

Thanks. Yes I will be excited to see what's in the pipeline. I like the idea of owning a Sinn but they are just too much money. Circula scratches that itch for me!

He seemed completely genuine and took the time to tell me what to look for when looking at quality in production. A proper enthusiast.

A well written review my friend and a very cool watch. I'm very happy with my Circula SuperSport.. proper compressor.

I did promise to do a review of it (and my Forza Enduratimer) but I've been too busy fixing knackered Tissot divers.

I wonder who lumbered you with those lovely mall watches!!

Great review! I saw comment or post recently on WC saying on a diver minute hand is more important than hour hand. It kind of makes sense since I would expect underwater you’re more likely to track minutes than hours (imo) so minute hand should be center of attention.

It just happened I bought ProTrail today so what a coincidence to see fresh Circula review 😅

Yep I read that about the minute hand as well and it does make sense. Does feel strange when you first wear the watch though.

@Stricko on this forum bought the field watch at the same time from Cornelius. I really like it. What colour did you go for?

I went for Sand. Around a year ago when I first saw ProTrail it was sand color that got me hooked. Back then two other versions were black which was bit dull for me. I had dilemma recently though as new Green, Umber and Grey all look spectacular, but still - combination of sand + blued colour on hands/indices won my heart 😅

Funnily enough the sand would be my preference too. Closely followed by that green! Post a review in the fullness of time?

There aren't many reviews of the divesport on you tube, at least in English. There are a few in German but I did French at school so not much use!

Yes, I will do review sometime after a month or so passes - just to cool down bit 😂 I think actually WC posts and reviews on specific key words are appearing in Google searches on top, so it’s a good place to share

This is a pretty resounding endorsement of what looks to be a real neat piece. Will have to have to check out their catalogue

Thanks a lot for this great review! It was great meeting you and your friends in London. I might skip this years event in favor of more shows in the US, but will definitely be back.

My pleasure! I think brand awareness is rising here in the UK.

I will definitely get another Circula. Great watches!

Definitely worth some research!

Great reveiw Craig, glad your loving it. Quality watches and with attention to detail and a company that cares, wouldn't be surprised if these watches are our only purchases from this Circula.

Yes! This has been on my radar for a while and on and out of my most wanted list. I've always liked steinhart as a brand. Do you own this one?

I don't, I'm not a huge fan of titanium. But I have three other Steinharts and absolutely love everything about them!
