My take on gold watches - if it's a bit smaller (shocker - I'm recommending a smaller watch???) dress watch to be worn with 'black tie' attire. When I see a hairy dude wearing a gold(en) watch to a polo shirt, I cringe and have an urge to ask 'are you from Cosa nostra or simply missed the fact that it's not 1980s anymore?'.

hmmm Tudor is one of those brands which made me question my brain's perception. Some of the watches look so attractive to me in 2D, but in 3D - go completely flat. Yes, it's nice, but not 'let's take a finance' nice. I got spoiled recently when I discovered that within 1h drive I have shops (and brand boutique shops) for majority of big brands so I can at least look at the watches up close. Rolexes and Tudors in person don't live up to the expectations e.g. black subby look like the most boring watch in history (Tudor looks better in person, actually :)), most of my cheap collection looks more attractive to me than most of the Tudor's offering.
I'm so glad I didn't fall for the hype and bought a watch online :)

well... so that lands in top 3 on my shortlist then (with optional blue sunburst version - PD homage is one of my fav watches now)

what's the diameter? I have love/hate relationship with Longines - I love their watches and I absolutely hate the fact that I can't afford to have them all...

I still love my Khaki, and it will be my 'forever' watch probably, but I realised it can't be my one-watch-collection watch - it just doesn't work well with bracelets. Leather straps are cool and all, but you wouldn't swim in them, wouldn't you? For me it's a case of rain and sweat (given the designated use of the watch) - I don't want to replace straps after every mountain hike :)

"How does everyone else handle the "your phone has a clock" argument?"

1. Reasonable approach 'good for you, have fun with that'. I understood, when I grew up, that people don't have to agree with me over everything and it's not my goal in life to convince everyone that 'I'm right'. Objectively, mechanical watches are not tools anymore - if someone needs a precise time-telling device, quartz beats any mechanical wrist watch. It's an accessory, it's a jewellery in a way, our watch choices tell something about us in one way or the other.

2. Fun approach - immediately propose a race 'Hey, so what time it is?' - let them struggle with whipping out the phone from their pockets while casually raising your hand and read out the time. Of course - most people will respond with 'I don't need that kind of accessibility' and they are right (read point 1).

exactly... AirKing is one of the cheapest Rolexes, but still - that would be a heart breaking moment to unbox a watch, put it on and realise I wasted a tone of money on something that does NOTHING for me...
