What does the community think about gold watches? Would you wear one?

I've always thought gold watches and two tone were great looking watches but I've never bought one because I feel it's too flashy. Just curious what the community thinks.

I'd wear a two tone, if it's done right and actually gold.

Sooo…I’m contemplating this for the ironic playfulness:

Can't go wrong.   I've thought about getting that exact watch myself.

I don't wear a lot of gold but it does make things look a bit more festive.  I have and will continue to wear gold and two tone watches.

The Oysterquartz is a bit over the top I admit but that's because of the insane diamond dial rather than the gold

Hi there Alex,

I have a vintage Seiko A714-5050.

I wear it occasionally and as mentioned above, if it is done right, I’d wear it. I’m more of a mat fellow. No gloss for me.

I have some gold tone watches. Hard to match with my silver toned wedding ring or black silicone work band. I have some gold rings that belonged to my grandfathers but they were both big men with huge fingers so I still need to get one or two of em resized so I can wear them with my gold watches

I don't currently have any gold watches, primarily because I can't justify the premium that manufacturers charge for precious metals. I really like the look of gold watches with black dials, like the Brew in the photos, so I just placed an order for one. Hopefully it will allow me to determine whether I'd feel comfortable wearing a solid gold watch.

Have owned a two-tone DJ. Was my first Rolex. Since then have only owned a couple of two-tones. A Hammy which is gone and now the Certina DS Diver 38mm STC Special Edition.

Gold PVD is SOOOOO much better vs 30 years ago. Not a fan of gold plating but PVD is another story.

Agreed! a matte gold color would be way better than glossy imo 🍻 waiting for reviews on the Brew metric gold to see if it's a glossy finish.   In pictures it looks more subdued and matte.

I don’t think I’ll ever spend on a real gold watch, though a two-tone was recently really tempting me so who knows? What I am ok with is a cheap fake gold quartz watch for some occasional gold vibes. That Brew is super cool and while I was tempted to buy one I don’t think I would ever actually wear it.

No to yellow gold or plated gold , Yes to white gold and solid not plated . Stealth wealth if you will ….

No one will rob you for it .

I voted no, but it’s not quite accurate;  I will wear gold watches when I’m in a costume as a oil sheik princeling, or Russian oligarch, …something where I’m pretending to be criminally rich

Real gold is soft, incredibly easy to scratch, insanely heavy - an absurd material to make watches from.

I guess when they primary goal is getting others attention then there is an argument in it’s favour

Apologies to my gold watch loving colleagues here, it’s just how I perceive it.

my costume watch I’ll never wear in daily life:

Thinking more - a dual metal watch, or PVD watch with a unique design can't be faulted, but still not my cup of tea ☕️

Yes, gold watches have a 80’s Wall Street or dad vibe. They’re awesome.

·

They are not for me. I don't own or wear a single piece of gold jewelry and so gold watches will probably never be a thing for me.

I had considered the PRX as well, but there is something about black and gold that really appeals to me.

Yeah it's a great combo black and gold

I love yellow gold. Three reasons, two big picture and one personal:

  1. Throughout the history of civilizations, yellow gold has been humans' metal of choice for jewelry. It is timeless.
  2. In contemporary society, acceptable men's attire is either conservative and plain or casual. A gold watch is one remaining opportunity for men to adorn themselves.
  3. My wedding ring is yellow gold. A gold watch compliments it very nicely.

My grail is the Vacheron Constantin Overseas 35mm in yellow gold with a blue dial (ref. 42050/423J).

Beautiful watch..I personally would need at least a 38mm but very pretty..

If the pvd gold is more subdued on the Brew I'll most likely get it.

I think it's more subdued than the photos on the Brew web site suggest, but not much. Here it is beside my gold plated ST Dupont lighter for comparison.

Personally, I never really liked the look of gold on a watch bracelet. I prefer a gold watch with a leather strap. Also, rose gold has always looked better to me than yellow gold for some reason.

I'm not really into gold watches but tye Brew got my interest.

Yeah the Brew is hard to resist...

I have two goldies in my collection, I think they are nice for the variation. My preference is for a more flat dressy watch on an expansion band. Saw a comment that the 80-ies are over. I agree but all is coming back and I think the gold colored watches will soon be "back in fashion" again 😅

I really like gold color but more matte than shiny.

Solid yellow gold (with a bracelet) seems a bit overwhelming. I have a rose gold Omega De Ville with a dark brown strap. Doesn't appear flashy to me at all.

I was thinking of a two tone SMP300 when I made my post. I think Omega does two tone very well.

Ditto. Yellow gold-on-bracelet, in my opinion, ages you somewhat... nice for an older man with a suit, but when I wear one it screams "grandpa's hand-me-down". Gold case with a champagne dial and dark brown or black leather strap is very dressy though, I'd like one of those. White gold is good too. I think rose gold is nice but I don't know how it would look with my skin tone.

Speedmaster Moonshine™ gold Chronograph Watch 310.60.42.50.10.001 | OMEGA UK®

If I owned the gold speedmaster with the green dial I would wear it every day!

Absolutely! That gold and green combo is sooo good.

I’m considering getting the Invicta 30602, which is all bling bling ostentatious. I saw it being sold brand new in its original plastic and everything for less than 100USD. Checking the Invicta Stores, this is apparently sold out so getting it new on the secondhand market is an attractive proposition. Invicta brand aside, it seems like a great deal: 42mm, 200m water resist… could be a good beater. Sure, it ain’t got no sapphire but I don’t expect sapphire at this price. The only issue I have with this is the garish, obnoxiously loud gold. But it is an Invicta afterall and most of my watches are either stainless steel or silver-ish so a little splash of yellow wouldn’t hurt. But I really need to take a deep look inwards—am I courageous enough to wear that much gold shine?

I don't like gold watches unless they are real gold. If you have the budget and taste for such watches then wear it with confidence (unless in a situation where it's dangerous or inappropriate). I like the look of both the new brew metric and the casio A700 but would never consider them because they are not real gold (a white gold casio would be hella cool and a real God tier watch). 😉
