Dress watch for young professional female in Boston

I suggested to my 26 yr old daughter she should get a watch other than iwatch. She wants something with a small dial and gold color band. I want to get her a watch from a brand that won’t get her ridicuded by people. Price range up to 5k. It will be a gift as she is very frugal with her money. She feels Rolex is for posers. I am thinking Nomos, Hamilton or a smaller German or brand. Thanks.

Cartier panther or tank. My first response was going to be a Nomos so you are in the right track in my mind

·

Longines is another good one.

·

You have quite a few options in Cartier at that price range. Panthere and Ronde Must 29 or 36mm, or the classic Tank.

·

All great suggestions! I need to do some research. Maybe I can convince her to join me in NYC next week for the two watch shows to get her ideas of what she is looking for.

·

Tudor 1926 (the blue numeral version is super), Junghans, tag heuer carrera… Cartier has many options in that price range and several sizes .

·

Cartier all day

·

Kyle, I was thinking about a nice vintage piece also. Years ago I lived in W-S. Still in mourning over K & W being gone from Kernersville.

·

Omega has a whole slew of pieces that meet that need. Also, the have some very cool quartz versions just for the ladies. And reasonably priced as well.

Any of the ladies Constellations would be great picks.

·

Nomos minimatik Champagne. Understated, feminine and supremely elegant. Totally within budget.

Gold color on the bracelet and case is the tricky part. The big brands are going to be real gold and therefore blow your budget. If she could handle gold colored accents (I think they are really bronze) maybe a 36mm 12 from Christopher Ward?

Unfortunately these are currently on pre-order for October delivery. Don't know what you ultimate time frame is.

Longines with the mini dolcevita!

·

Longines Elegance, understated, luxurious and street cred.

If you want to spend even less, vintage Seiko Credors offer excellent value. I see them as being the pinnacle of frugality.

Maybe they’ll have these at the boutiques in New York. You can order the white and blue dial online, but the pink is not available online. They have 33mm or 36mm. It’s a tad bit more than 5K, if you think she’s worth it 😉

I know you said gold, but I agree with Cartier. Tank, Santos Dumont, Panthere, or Ballon Bleu are a classy choice for a young professional. Plenty of pre-owned options if you want something unique.

·

Ridiculed for her watch? Is she surrounded by watch snobs?

Cartier Tank all the way

·

Rolex with gold colored band for under 5k? LOL

Just the fact that someone thinks she will be ridiculed says it all... THAT gen doesn't wear watches, just like they don't use pens... I think you need to start her with something that's cool, that will make her see that watches are a lot cooler and sexier than iwatch. To get proper recommendation I think the community needs to know a little but more about the person than simply her age though. Profession, style, fav activities/hobbies, whether she likes jewelry... what would be the intended use of the watch - work or weekends...??? Does she travel a lot... I remember in one of the sci-fi movies was this hologram recording that kept saying - ask the correct question. Otherwise, it didn't provide a response. That's how I feel having read this post

watch snobs wont ridicule her if she has a nice watch. Gen Z will, just for wearing an old school watch.

Who said she's a professional? She could just as well be an artist or an athlete, no?

Nomos would be an amazing choice.

Nomos if she is into waches, which she clearly is not yet. Otherwise, I am afraid it may be too bland. If nomos was the first watch for me, I am afraid I'd never join this hobby LOL

Surely there is a JLC available to meet the needs?

I was thinking a reverso if you can get it under 5K. It's a piece which could be a conversation starter, it does what iPlasticCrap cant do and has a practical side to it with 2 sides and all.

You say she's frugal, cares only about the band color, and case size? Show her one of the Tissot PRX quartz maybe, because I get a hunch most intro watch folks enjoy starting with the "ease" of quartz.

Women generally prefer quartz. GENERALLY! (dont want to hear sht here...)

Experienced this firsthand with women in my family. But I mean quartz as opposed to a digital quartz...

Cartier Tank Must Small or Medium

She has a close friend (who I like) since high school who could be described as a fashion snob. They get together a few times a month. He wears a used date just Rolex and is obsessed with fashion brands (which he spends most of his income on). present obsession is Isaia suits. My daughter can hold her own but I want to get her a nice watch. I think Cartier may b a good choice. Plus tons of suggestions I need to check out. Will try to post at some point pics of my newbie collection. My second purchase was my grail watch.

She is a CPA at one of the large public accounting firms. Has occasional client contact. She is not obsessed by brand names. I now realize I should of phrased my question differently: any suggestions on a watch, with preferably a case with gold accents that she could wear for work or nice dinners and not be considered a “rube” like Clarise was by Hannibal Lector.

·

My gal just left PWC New York... Also a CPA... Her friend got a rolex datejust (but one of those less popular variations) and soon moved over to Black Stone. Mine wears a forbid and I cant convince her to start wearing a watch. Even bought her a Bvlgari piece a while back. It's catching dust at home and she's been nagging at me to sell it. Still cant figure out what watch she would like to wear... So I gave up.
