SOTC - Air, Land, & Sea — what’s next?

My collecting approach is based off of creating the best six watch Seiko collection.

The six categories of a six watch collection are Diver, Chronograph, Field, Dress, Beater, and GMT.

On the way to my ideal six watch collection I realized that I have a great land, air, and sea trio! All of these are strap demons, with options for steel, leather, and nylon. They are all also 200m water resistant, keeping a tough, tool watch trend.

What are your thoughts on this set as its own stand alone collection? What is your ideal air, land, and sea combo?

Your group is excellent!

My dream lineup?

Let’s see….

Turtle or Cpt Willard for Sea. Black dial/bezel on either. Bracelets on either.

Alpinist with a creme dial and silver indices or a SRPG27 for land. Again, bracelets.

SBGM221 GMT for air. The most beautiful Seiko AFAIC.

Plenty of various NATO Straps.

Just my $0.02

The brown strap on the mighty “flighty” is pure chef’s kiss 🤙🎯

Love it! None of the “space” watches have really spoken to me personally. If anything I think the blue dial Pogues are sweet!

Thanks! I really do like it. I swap between steel, the suede pictured here, and a nylon MN strap. Probably going to switch back to the nylon soon. There’s something about the flighty that makes it a great fall time watch!

Yes!!! I just wish that correct Ceverts weren't so expensive or that there weren't too many Frankensteins. The white dial version is also great, but harder to find.

Space of course!

Thank you! Not pictured is my dress watch, vintage King Seiko 5625-7113.

I’ve tried to collect all of the main categories of Seiko classic collections.

Next watch is going to be Seiko Arnie reissue for the beater category.Still open to GMT suggestions other than the Seiko 5 GMT. Any ideas?

What kinda budget we talkin?

It will be interesting to see if you can maintain that six piece agenda. I've failed miserably, as I am on the 30 piece plan at the moment.

Yeah… probably won’t. Already have my eye on the SSC813 Speedtimer and SPB143 62mas

·

Ya need a Space watch, a Seiko Pogue will check two boxes - space & vintage.

Easy enough to find, bit pricey but they are appreciating so a potential investment too!

Here's mine 🤗

Keeping it sub $1k. Dream would be the Navigator Timer reissue SPB411. Don’t know if I can justify the price though. Maybe wait till some kind of general release

Not pictured is my dress watch, vintage King Seiko 5625-7113. Might have to find a blue dial pogue one of these days!

Awesome! Love that blue! My next watch is going to be the Seiko Arnie reissue. Got a soft spot for the spb143 though…

Arnie super classic - love it!

and... I'm with you on any 62MAS re-issue as well. UG, too many watches not enough wrists.

I actually love this so much. Are you a exclusive seiko collector? I admire people that collect one brand so much. Unless it’s Rolex then they are snobs haha

Yes I am. Some would call me a talking head, but I love the Seiko heritage. They tick all the boxes for me. My collecting approach is based off of collecting the most classic Seiko designs and model families.

The three musketeers. Great collection. That Flighty is the business! My old man gave it to me about 3 years ago, with a broken crystal and a dead battery. Sourced another crystal, genuine battery, wore it for a year before giving it back to him. An underrated classic that SNA411.

A Seiko Astron Solar GPS will complete the collection

Love it, great story! Got mine cheap with scratched crystal, swapped in a sapphire and good to go!

That’s a great idea!

I picked one up last week. The way it acquires the 4 satellites and then sets the time is alone worth the price. Go for it!
