Frederique Constant Highlife Perpetual Calendar Redbar...the watch I never thought I'd own
When the Highlife line announced I thought it looked great. It would scratch the integrated bracelet itch. When they added the Perpetual Calendar models I was really hit. This complication is usually in dressier models and this looked to be something that had a sport edge but could be dressed up.
When they announced the 10 piece limited edition in September of 2020, my Grail was created. The red moon really hit me. The price made it unobtanium. I kept checking and eventually it sold out. I didn't really think about it after that because I never thought I would be able to acquire 1.
After the dream of this piece came and went they announced a blue panda chronograph in the line. I would check eBay for any deals on 1 of those when in April of 2023 I saw a brand new Red Bar Perpetual Calendar for sale!! After talking to the seller for a month we struck a deal that was an unbelievable price and it was mine! Of the 10, I was told only 8 made it into the wild because the first 2 went to the heads of Redbar. It's cool it is so limited but even if it was the production model I would have still loved it. It's funny I have the Redbar edition but can't get an invite to the closest Redbar meetups.
The watch wears great. It has quick change spring bars. The dial looks fantastic and is very legible. It can be dressed up or down. The leather strap looks great but the clasp sucks. It is hard to open and close. Eventually I'll source the blue rubber strap.

Congrats on obtaining this badboy! FC is definitely underrated by many. It’s a shame you feel excluded by redbar these days. Its origins were certainly inclusive. I was lucky enough to hang out one wild night at the original redbar in Koreatown with Adam C and a bunch of other members of the forum I founded years ago.

I think that a mechanic perpetual calendar must be a grail watch for everyone, congrats I think that FC Is making things very interrsting specially in the gray market!
