Tag Heuer love

Tag Heuer is the brand that I first caught interest in back in the late 90’s. I got my first decent paying job, I was looking for my first nice watch, and a sales rep showed me a Tag professional that was more than I could spend at the time. I ended up buying an ESQ lol.

A few years later, Tag under Biver was putting out some incredible pieces. I bought my first Aquaracer Quartz followed by an AR500 automatic. I’ve owned a number of Tags since. Leadership changed, designs were going in an odd direction. They would throw us an occassional heritage piece, but it seemed like they were gearing more towards a customer looking for Movado, and it seemed like they were turning off a lot of enthusiasts. I haven’t owned one in a few years.

This year, they seem to have gone back to the drawing board. They put out some incredible heritage pieces, and then released the Glassbox Carrera’s. I haven’t seen Tag Heuer get this highly covered and reviewed in years. I was completely sucked in by the Skipper, the most unique dial I’ve owned. A couple weeks ago, a friend introduced me to the Carrera 74, a collaboration with CronotempVs limited to 74 pieces. Another dial that blew me away along with some urgency to grab it quick with its limited availability.

I know many are not fans of smartwatches, but I always have to have one. I met with members of the Tag Connected team this week, and looking forward to what they are planning to do with this watch through 2024. I traded in my Stainless 45 and picked up the black titanium 42 which wears incredibly.

Inwent from no Tags 2 months ago to 3 pieces that I’m excited about.

Curious what other members impressions of Tag Heuer these days.

Great overview of your watch journey with Tag. I'm late to the watch game. I'm in my late 50's and never wore a watch, but had always admired them. Watches started for me in the last year wanting to get a smart watch, but not liking Apple, so was looking for alternatives. I also wanted something that looked like a real watch. I ended up with the Connected as my first watch. From there I got the bug, wanting a "real" watch, and started educating myself. Decided that I only wanted mechanical movements, specifically automatics, the movement is half of what fascinates me with watches. So I got the WBN2111.FC6505, which is absolutely stunning. From there I've branched out to Omega, Grand Seiko, and Seiko. I've decided that my next acquisition should be a chronograph, and I'm seriously considering another Tag. The CBN2A10.BA0643 really hits a lot of my buttons, but I really would like something under 44mm, and the CBK221H.FC8317 look absolutely beautiful.

It’s a rabbit hole this hobby, isn’t it? Sounds like you’ve gotten a hell of a start! Which Connected did you get? Looking forward to seeing what you think of the models you are looking at when you get to see them in person.

·

That’s a true classic! Do you still own that Kirium?

·

I’m with you on the Tag Heuer love.

The Heuer Monza is my fave👌- especially the 2016 release celebrating Niki Lauda’s win in the 70’s is my current fave out of the modern line-up.

But IMO Heuer has one of the best back catalogues - yes even cooler than Rolex and Omega.

YET to get a Tag but let’s see 👊🏼

LOVE how you’ve setup the Aquaracer - is that an aftermarket strap?

Yes it definitely is! I got the Calibre E4 stainless with the black rubber band. For what it is, it's a great watch.

Awesome! Skipper reissue was a great choice. Monza is also a fantastic choice.

Hopefully, they will release the Seafarer reissue in 2024...

Here are some of the TAG Heuers/Heuers in my collection...

This is one of the best Tag collections I’ve seen! Some incredible pieces here. Is that one Autavia the Hodinkee Orange Boy?

Thanks! Yes - that is the Autavia Orange Boy from Hodinkee.

The other modern one is the Autavia Viceroy Reissue and then further down is the original Heuer Viceroy from the early 1970s.

There is also the Autavia "Jo Siffert" in there from the early 1970s which I'm super stoked to have in the collection.

I love what they have been doing with the Carrera reissues.

I spoke with them about the reissue of the Gold Carrera in 39mm. I begged them to reissue on the gold bracelet (like the vintage one Ryan Gosling wears in the Barbie movie - his is a 36mm). Fingers crossed they will do it...we'll see.

Wouldn't it be awesome if they reissued this one with the glassbox crystal in 39mm on a solid gold bracelet...one can only dream...

Just tried on the black reverse panda glassbox today and it was incredible. I ended up walking out with a Grand Seiko Cherry Blossom but this was a very very close buy over the GS.

I was so close to pulling the trigger on one. The AD’s I deal with didn’t have any, and I wasn’t paying full price at the boutique who did have 2. I ended up finding out about the Carrera 74 and couldn’t resist.

I had one, incredible piece. I actually did a review on it. Call a Tag outlet when you are ready, and see if they might have any available to possibly ship.

DUDE I have seen that video so, so many times!!!! 😳

Oh man had no idea it was you! Well I do now (besides the same username/handle 😂).

That Calibre11 website no longer works though which is a shame….any ideas what happened there?

That was a fun one to do, it really is a great watch, I love these heritage pieces.

What happened to Calibre11 was a shame. Tag bizarrely cut ties with them, would love to understand the reasoning behind that. Tagheuerforums is the continuation of the Calibre11 forums including forum history.

Perfect thank you!

Yeah I’m with you on the heritage pieces.

I am currently totally obsessing over the Heuer and Omega back catalogue right now…

Just some incredible gems.

I have one; my first luxury watch.

I love it, and use it kinda as a beater. I’ve fallen in love with the new Carrera models, and will probably have to get one in the near future.
