How do you consolidate watches?

So I’m currently at an impass. I’m starting to get to the point that I want my watches to each hold a specific role.

For example, instead of having 2-3 divers, having just 1…

This has opened up some issues for my collection in regards to streamlining style, color and purpose.

My latest issue comes from the desire to streamline my collection. I’m at a point whereby I’m debating selling my Baltic Aquascaphe and buying a Super Squale in black.

Are they too similar? Both are vintage divers with fauxtina and similar handset and indices.

But would that overlap too much with my desire to own a CW C63 Sealander GMT? 2 black dial tool watches? Or perhaps I go with a white-dial C63?

What do you all do when you’re at a loss for what to do/how to proceed with your watch collection?

I’ve seen collections of only one brand, only one style, or random. Everyone has their style. Keep what you like.

I could not sell my Aquascaphe. I find it to be a really versatile watch to wear with it’s beads of rice bracelet and different types of straps. It’s also so comfy to wear and I love the vintage look.

I agree! The Squale checks off a lot of boxes that the Aquascaphe and SPB143 do. I view it as a means to consolidate. But I might be wrong.

Just go for what you like. Arbitrary groupings don't work for me. Going that route means in theory you'll choose something you're "supposed" to have rather than what you like best. I try to remember that a watch is a watch regardless of style.

If you don't mind spending the money keep what you have and buy the Squale also. Then you can look beyond just the idea that they are both vintage like divers and wear them when they go with certain clothes and certain situations. I have some similar watches too but they are different enough that I can specialize the look with certain clothes and activities.

First of all there is never one, let's just get that out of the way. Second, it sounds like you are still developing what you want to do. Let yourself have stuff for a while without serious restrictions, you can decide later with a more informed decision.

Put the Baltic in the box away from your normal collection and wait a week. If at the end of the week you miss the watch than keep. If you don’t think twice you are going to be owning a squale soon.

Get a white C63 in 36mm.

Most of my collection seems to be black dialed divers with fauxtina - if it floats your boat then do what makes you happy!

Personally I wouldn't touch Baltic with a shitty stick , I go Squale, but that's just my personal tastes.

Good luck 👍

Fair enough. Did you have a bad experience with Baltic?

No, I just don't see the value in microbrands myself. And they're French !! 🤣

I have started to add more expensive watches so with that I need to focus on quality and not quantity. You can find plenty of good brands at all price points but I wanted to experience some “luxury “ watches so I need to let go of a lot to justify how much I spent on some of my watches or I’m just irresponsible. I think trading up and moving up a ladder is part of the hobby

Fair. I know right now I’m in a weird phase where I have a mental block that says I should try to have watches of varying dial variety, such as a blue dial watch etc.

Me too. I’ve actually decided to keep the Baltic.
