My new purchase - BB58

Hello everyone!

Panerai lasted only two months in my collection. I don't miss them, because I realized a long time ago that I have no attachment to things. I very easily part with both watches and cars. There are so many interesting things in the world and I want to try as much as possible, if there is such an opportunity.

Over time, I deduced for myself the formula for the number of watches in the collection. My ideal is 3 pieces:

1. A universal luxury watch that can be worn for every day and for special events. (Rolex Submariner).

2. A watch that are not a pity, for active sports, beach and diving. (Seiko Tuna)

3. A watch that quenches the thirst for buying a new watch. Which can be worn both during travel and for every day. I can change them often in order to try completely different styles and complications.

I hate buying things that then get dusty on the shelf. As I said, I absolutely do not mind selling watches. Therefore, in paragraph 3, no one stays for a long time. The last were Panerai.

There are a few watches in my wishlist that I really want to try. IWC Chronograph 41, Zenith Chronomaster Sport, Cartier Santos, Ulysses Nardin and so on. But there were watches in this list that no adequate person would buy if there was a Submariner, but I had my eye on them since their release. I have always admired them from the outside, but I understood that they do not suit me for daily use due to the lack of a date. Now, having a Submariner Date, I can get them with a clear conscience!

We are talking about Tudor Black Bay 58! Incredibly beautiful divers in vintage style. Is Tudor homage a Rolex? Of course yes! But firstly, this homage is absolutely legal, and secondly, the quality of this homage surpasses Omega and many others. Reliable manufactured caliber for 70 hours, clear clicks of the bezel, no gaps between the case and the bracelet, the new most convenient T-fit clasp and all this at a price lower than that of competitors. Most likely, I fell in love with them, since my favorite watch of all time is the Sub. I just wanted something similar, but much cheaper to be able to travel with them. Of course, the BB58 has disadvantages: a bracelet with an old clasp and an aluminum bezel. If I put up with the bezel, then with the old clasp - NOT! After glide lock, I can't use anything else anymore. Fortunately, there are solutions to this problem:

1) A bracelet from Uncle Seiko

2) Bracelet from Tudor Ranger

I could not order the delivery of Uncle Seiko to my country, but I found an offer in a neighboring city for the sale of an original new bracelet from Ranger! A lot has already been said on this topic. In short: it is without stamping on the sides and it is with a T-fit clasp. Yes, it costs 1/3 of the watch itself, but this is the perfect solution, since the Ranger and BB58 cases are identical.

You have a logical question: why in 2023 you buy the old BB58, and not the new BB54, which is lighter, thinner, smaller and initially has a t-fit clasp?

Answer: in my opinion, this is a simplified version of BB58. I had a feeling that they were made much simpler, as if Tudor had saved on them. The small case seemed disproportionate to me, too small for divers, the absence of a red triangle makes them boring, and the worst thing is the off-center pip! On reviews from bloggers, I immediately noticed that it was crooked, which caused me rejection. What happened to quality control? It's a shame.

I want to add that since the release of BB58, I dreamed that they would add a version with a red bezel, like on the 41mm model, which are too big and heavy for me. If they ever do, I'll be the first customer. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy my new watch because it's beautiful and it looks like a Sub!

Thx for the post, much to unpack, I have never been a minimalist person but might be a good time to consider some lifestyle alterations. My problem might be that watches are just one of several affectations that I enjoy. I would like to plan a renovation, addition on our hovel building but my smart wife tells me to just buy a few more watches. Lol.

I am in love with my BB58 as well in Navy Blue. Bought it a week after the BB54 was launched. Prefer the crown and the size on the BB58. But the clasp is just alright. The quality of the riveted bracelet is great for the price but the clasp is nothing shout about. Nevermind the t-fit clasp, the newer BB54 and the Burgundy BB41 just looks more nicer in appearance.

But what won me over is the blue accent, under daylight it looks magnificent despite the absence of the gilt and red triangle.
