1968 Seikomatic P

Underrated product from Daini,

seikomatic p was only produced from 1967 to 1969

33 jewel workhorse movement, instant day&date change, and stunning blue dial.

They don't make them like they used to...

A lot of the Daini made stuff seems to fly under the radar. Possibly because a larger proportion of their watches were JDM's compared to Suwa? I'm really not sure. The upside is you can get some pretty terrific bargains on some excellent watches like that fantastic Seikomatic-P you've got there.

My Lord Matic Special has the Daini caliber 5216 and aside from my spring drive it might be the best overall automatic in my collection. It runs at about +5spd when I'm wearing it, but by resting it in an upright vertical position overnight I can get it to average out to approximately +/- 1spd! Astonishing performance for a watch that'll be turning 50 in a just a few years.

They really don't make them like they used to!

absolute stunner. will have to keep an eye out for a bargain LM special and add one to my collection but maybe in like a month, already bought 3 vintage watches in the past 2 weeks 😂

Dude, I bought something like half a dozen vintage Seikos in the past month. I know exactly how you feel. I'm gonna give it a rest for while, but I'm sure I'll probably be sniffing out some more bargains again in the Summer time.

eBay is a good place to look if you're careful. I've had the best luck with Japanese sellers. They're pretty honest in my experience and tend to be more upfront about the condition of the watches they're selling when you communicate with them.

·

If you'd prefer to buy from an established reputable dealer, I will also say that DC Vintage Watches is legit. They've got a decent selection of vintage Seikos and they're always putting new stuff up for sale. A watch from them will come at a markup compared to if you were to find it yourself on a place like eBay, but there's something to be said for the value of buying something that you can have confidence in.

I love this!

I do love vintage Seikos but I have had to work hard to limit my buying because it would just be never ending. 🫣

My favourite two and a lovely citizen too ...

Beautiful watches.

It looks like @Suddenly_Monday, you and I suffer from the same problem, the vintage bug😂

The next piece(s) I hope to get would be a Citizen Cutlass or a king seiko chronometer certified.

Perhaps something like this

Definitely the TV dials are really lovely.

@GasWorks has done some lovely refurbs on a few but @Guvnor64 always gets first refusal on his watches... and never refuses 😆
