Luminox (?)

Hey Crunchers, I have always had my eye on Luminox from the moment I saw one for the first time (at night) on the water.

I was intrigued by the tritium lume, but this was long before I cared about watches. Pretty sure I was wearing an Garmin Fenix 3HR back then…

Haven’t heard much about them, and typically don’t see them in the wild too much. Is this due to quality issues? Or other problems?

I am curious to hear what the group has to say about these before I buy.

I’d also be open to alternatives that have a similar look/feel!

Thanks in advance, everyone.

A while ago someone help me with a similar question. These watches are timewise onpoint for a long time, battery life seems to be very good, building quality dito.

After 'my' watch in question wasn t available anymore i didn t pull the trigger

The photo looks great! Nothing lame about it.

Thank you for the insight. I am going to grab it.

I bought a Luminox (forgot the name of the model) back in about 2014, and I threw it away about a month ago.

It had very little (to zero) wrist time and it was sitting in my watch box I think from 2016 up until last month. I used to only wear it when I was doing outdoor activities such as hiking.

Fast forward to last month, I was tidying up various stuff at home and found the watch. The moment I held it in my hand, the rubber strap started to rip to pieces. Mist also seemed to appear on the dial. I realised it may be futile to get it fixed, therefore I ended up throwing it away. I think the humidity may have played a part to its eventual "degradation".

My experience with it however does not imply or suggest anything negative about the brand though. I remember myself enjoyed wearing it like a G-Shock alternative back when I first acquired it.

Luminox. I have a Colorway. It tore up then the movement needed replacing. Not high marks for a watch claiming to be rugged.

I also have an Xcor. It is fine but it has never been worn much. Battery is now dead, btw. It was another TJ Maxx find, on clearance, about 25% of list. Has to have it because of the space connection.

The brightness of the lume from the tritium is ok….nothing amazing. But, overall, I’m happy with this watch. The screw down crown feels like it could be better, but for what I paid, $189, this is a great watch. Do I think it’s worth above $500, no. But I like the sunburst dial, the click of the plastic bezel, wish it were aluminum, and the bracelet is well done for this price point.

Thank you for the kind words! Hope you enjoy the watch! It's something different for sure and fun 😁

Tritium may not have the brightness of standard lume, however within 30-40 mins it will be brighter than standard lume and with night adjusted eyes it truly glows.

I have 2 Luminox. Had to replace movement in one of them - very inexpensive ($25) quartz movement.

Battery life is good.

Cases are very lightweight. Waterproofing good.

But their claim to fame - the lume - is where they fail. I have multiple failed lumes, including the minute hand on one watch, and both minute and hour hand on the other. Makes them useless. And they do not sell replacement parts.

That is wild! Will they service it if you send it to them???

I took a long while to pick my tritium watch and I am glad I did. I ended up with a GWS Pro. Cheap, but out specs many other tritium watches which cost much more, fits under a shirt cuff easy enough also. I've used it for night shift and days in the office. Excuse the terrible photo.

I have a Luminox P-38 that I’ve only had for a month. It’s beautiful and wears great. But if you want an alternative look into protek I just had one come in today.
