Casio MRW-200H Sport Watch Review

A little over a month ago, I was at Walmart buying bananas, shower curtain rings and a 12 pack of Pepsi and thought I’d saunter over to the watch department. I started the perusal process and came across a watch I had skipped a couple of times before, the Casio MRW-200H. This time I pulled it from its sloppily-placed resting platform and realized what I was holding was something special!

Image

I plopped it next to the bananas in the cart (with the twirling right front wheel) and walked anxiously to checkout. Two minutes later and $21.36 (for the watch) poorer, I ambled out the sliding front door and into the festive Walmart parking lot riddled with kindly and well-dressed Walmart people like myself.

Image

Upon donning the watch and wearing it, I began to feel an oozing warmth envelope my body…like lazily-sleeping within a body snatcher cocoon. What was this feeling? From where was this euphoric warmth coming?

Image

I don’t have to sing from the rooftops the praises of this watch — it does it for me. Every time I wear it out and about, someone comments on it (and you all know how rare that is). Maybe it’s because it’s so nice looking and has great dimensions and capable specs:

This sport watch immortalizes the reality that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a great watch. It’s the proverbial diamond in the rough that makes me feel all good inside!

  • Accurate movement that hits all the markers perfectly.
  • Great size for most wrists.
  • Good looking, legible and good lume.
  • Light and very comfortable to wear.
  • Day and date complication.
  • Friction bezel. Though it turns fine, I’d prefer the tactile ‘click’.
  • Resin crystal. Gotta take care not to scratch it.
  • Plastic buckle.

Cool find for less than $22.00 !

I have a white dial version on the way.

With the southern hemisphere easing into spring and summer not far away with boisterous aquatic activites on the cards, I figured wanting a summer beater would be a good excuse to try one.

Since I've never had a watch with a white dial, or a diver-style, or a solely analogue quartz, this is an inexpensive way to figuratively and literally test the waters. A day-date complication in this price range is icing on an already tasty cake.

I used to hate this watch when I would see it in reviews since it always seemed to look super glossy and almost toyish. All that until I felt it in person and boy did I change my mind. I fell instantly inlove and couldnt get over how different the case colour and texture was from those reviews online. Its now one of my fav pieces and love how legible it is.

Nice! I really like on yours the numerals have been replaced with markers — it has reduced cluttering.

Yes, that appealed to me about this version. However, despite the appearance it is not a lume monster. The lume on the hands is ok but the indices are not bright and fade pretty fast. I knew this going in so not a surprise and is a compromise at this price point.

Umm, don't remember. It is a Hollywood-style rear projection scene-setting device, aka my computer monitor.

Darn, I should have worked less and skipped school more so I could be a "soshal me jar influenzer". Maybe there is still time for a side gig:

"Hey Fam, just chillin by the pool and livin life. Check out my new watch it is like a real watch like apple n stuff cept this one is cool and retro cos it has actual moving stick things inside.
