Hands down, out of my several-dozen watches, my Citizen Navihawk’s domed crystal reigns supreme as the most graceful, tonal, and aesthetically-tantalizing.
Its curvature bends light to a faint sterile-green hue that shines forth like the helmet screen of an SR71 pilot.
Strengthwise, I cannot detect a scratch on its surface (like the Blackbird’s titanium fuselage) even though I’ve owned it 28 years.
Citizen is somewhat of a blacksheep brand among collectors…it seems. But for my Navihawk’s longevity at least…one can never question its quality.
What is the most wonderful domed crystal in your watch collection?

That is the domiest.
I’m going to say my Goofy Panda.
I normally go for flat crystals but I really like this one.
Nobody does a domed crystal like Panerai

In the diamond business, we preferred elegant over goofy. And that it seems is what your panda portrays.

That watch has been on my wishlist for decades.
It's in a very good state.
Unlike mine 😅
The Carreras domed crystal is my favorite.
1979 Rolex 1665 Sea Dweller (most boxes domed)
1973 Benrus Type I (most curved domed)

I think this may be the domiest.

And it flows right out of the angle of the bezel

I just think I’ve been lucky.

A stark, high dome indeed!

Which begs the question why it seems many new watches lack any dome at all.

Oh yes…that could be a biodome housing a million microscopic humans in a hermetically-sealed egalitarian society.
Which begs the question why it seems many new watches lack any dome at all.
Cost. Domed crystals cost a lot more to produce.

Indeed.

Older watches need the dome to better distribute the pressure at deep depths (hence vintage pre-saphire Sea Dwellers were domed and vintage pre-saphire Submariners were not domed). Modern watch construction can handle high pressures w/o the domed crystal.

Ahhh yes…sound reason. The improvement of physical dynamics over time.

Yeah, I didn't know the crystal was like that when I got it, but I like it!
