The first watch with a "big name"

So, this is an often asked question, at least i think.

I am currently thinking about selling my second car, because i dont use it often and i think there's probably someome who will have more fun with it than me.

After my calculation (or more what i hope to get), i would have a few bucks to spend on a watch, witch i think, i will enjoy more often.

So, lets say, i have around 5000-6000 bucks, what would your first "serious" watch be?

Im thinking about those:

Omega Speedmaster

Omega Seamaster 300

Tudor BB ,BB58

So classic steel watches.

Any other ideas?

What a dilemma ! For me a Seamaster. Every time I look at a watch (or a car for that matter) I think what if I had a few thousand more, and that being said it would be a Rolex Datejust. Sorry if I gave you and your budget ideas !

Go visit a watch shop that carries multiple brands and try things on. I've had my heart set on so many different watches, only to be disappointed when I actually tried them. Conversely, I've been blown away by watches "in the metal" that I barely considered prior to seeing them. Grand Seiko will particularly do that to you. Same with the JLC Polaris in blue that I just got and am in love with, but that's likely going to run closer to $7k.

I’d go for the Seamaster or a GS, but that’s me. I would go try things on. For that amount, you should really love the watch and the look and feel to you will be unique. Enjoy your hunt.

That’s a tough price point for me because I’m not genuinely fond of most models in the range.

I can’t help but think that you could get a custom made Habring2 made for around this budget that would be much more beautiful than most production line watches.

I will second what @Robcollects said.  The new Seamaster 300 in green looks absolutely stunning to my eyes.

But, potentially the only reason I'm so smitten with it is because of the new colorway.  Otherwise, I'd say that Grand Seiko will offer you much, much more for your money than any Swiss counterpart would.  At $5k - $6k, you could get any of the following, for which pictures do no justice whatsoever - only seeing them in real life can you appreciate just how beautiful they are.  To get the same level of finishing on a $5k GS, would require at least $15k for the Swiss counterpart.

Thanks #omeganut I had a busy evening, so didn’t look up any pix, but you showed some good ones. Can’t really touch GS in this range.

·

Just personal preference, but I would go Aqua Terra over the 300.  Not necessarily the red below, but maybe (had that pic on hand from another post).  The Seamaster Railmaster more than the 300 too.

One of those or the Black Bay 58. I have a 41mm Black Bay and love it.  I like the 58 with black dial and gold accents.

Yeah, I'd also be taking a good long look at GS's catalogue if I suddenly had 5k of sports watch money sitting around.

·

Have you considered the Grand Seiko brand, they look great, lots of heritage

·

You can never go wrong with a Seamaster

·

You make a decision on a watch yet?

Hard to go wrong with that. I’m currently obsessed with the vintage lume ‘57 speedmaster and trying to convince myself I don’t need it to feel whole as a person.
